Anyone ever use 5w30 in their ca-det? I usually use 10w30 Mobil, but I was wondering for the winter months if 5w30 would be ok?? I would assume so, since it's a 5 weight until it warms up, then turns into 30.I was wondering if this would bring down my oil pressure some until the engine is warmed up on cold days.

Cold enough...........it was in the teens a couple of weeks ago, and lately it's been down in the upper 20's to low 30's

geeze, I had 10w-40 in my ca18de during the summer. Since I went det I started using 5w-30. never really noticed anything strange aside maybe slightly more valve noise in the summer.

I'm using castrol syntec blend 5w20. It helps... isntead of changing the oil every 1500 miles I'm getting 2000-2500 before the lifters start tapping. Was using 10w40 before, Redline. Yes, this syntec blend is lasting longer than Redline. And since my motor was totally rebuild, I'm sure its not some "old engine leaking from synthetic oil" crap.

I have overcooling problems. Before you say anything, yes my thermostat is fine.

Koyo 53mm rad + the OEM oil cooler setup. If I run my favs all the time, it will never warm up at idle. Leaving them unhooked, I have to be in stop and go traffic for at least 15-20 minutes before it starts to go above normal. With the fans on the AC temp switch, they take 2-3 seconds max to drop from 198*F to 188*F radiator outlet temp, so they'll come on for a few seconds and cut off again for awhile.

I plan to ditch that silly OEM water heat exchanger oil cooler thing, since I think I'm cooling the oil and the rest of the engine too, even with the tstat closed. The heat just gets sucked through the still water.

I'd personally never use less than a 10w40 in a CA. I use a 10w50 all year round in mine.

I have a front mount oil cooler....no t-stat, which I probably should get....and maybe the reason why my oil pressure seems so high on cold days. I'll try the 5w20 or 5w30 for now until I get a t-stat for my oil cooler, and see if that helps. How about a 0w30?

15W-50 Mobil1 for the past 3.5 years for me. I too have a front mount oil cooler w/o tstat, and never had an issue.

unless you're actually racing for great lengths of time, the 'heavier' weight oil won't do much difference, and the 'lighter' weight helps greatly when cold.

Once I get the overcooling fixed I'll probably go back up in weight tho, if nothing else there's not much choice in 5w20

I wouldn't use any less than a xW-40 on a turbo motor. I run 10-40 in the winter and 20-50 in the summer.
