Hey guys, I got a lady friend that wants me to look at a 2000 Maxima that she's considering buying this Wednesday. So far, all I know about it is that it has about 150k miles on it (which is kinda high for a 10yo car, IMO). I'm hoping you guys can shed some light other things I need to look out for. I peeped the Wiki page, but wanted to get some input from the pros.

I've been researching VQ's alot to swap one into my S13 (VQ30DET specifically) and I've heard that the VQ30DEK is the best of all the VQ's that we get in the states. But what I'm really trying to confirm is if the VQ30's are prone to the same oil consumption issues as the VQ35's. If you guys can confirm that and any other issues I should look out for I'll be very grateful (as it will probably get me laid too... lol ).

OH and BTW... I browsed through the stickies, but nothing jumped out at me saying 'Common Maxima Problems' or anything like that. Just let me know if I missed that post...

the VQ30's do not have the oil consumption problem that the VQ35's have/had.

if she purchases a WELL MAINTAINED Maxima, she's be in great shape at 150k miles!general things to look for:rustmotor mount crackingaxle boot tearsexcessive corrosion of the engine aluminumfirm e-brakesmooth transmission shiftingsmooth idleBOSE stereo working 100% properlyspare tire not worn out

have a mechanic check it before she buys it...also, RUN THE CARFAX!!!!!!!!!!

if the vehicle isn't being sold at a "certified used" dealer do your research on the cars VIN first.

all in all 150K after 9-10 years is great...average 15k per year, 1080 +- per month. NOT BAD!

Thanks alot! I always run Carfax before buying a car, I'll have her do the same.

Unfortunately, I'm about the closest thing to a certified mechanic that she's gonna get to look at this car, so I hope it ain't a lemon, but I'll tell her if I don't like it.

Anyways the car is being offered for $4000 w/ 90 days same as cash. Does that sound about right to you guys?

Carfax doesn't mean a thing unless the previous owner reported the car in an accident, or the damage is over whatever dollar amount, trust me on that one gents.

Yes yes yes... we are very aware of that. It's just another safety net. In the event to something DID get reported, I'd rather know about it in advance.

But anyways... said lady friend decided she wanted to get something else. Women are so fickle...
