So on my 2000 maxima, there are 2 holes on the driver side of the ecu. I can't see inside very far - is the screw to reset the ecu (and my SES light) recessed inside one of those holes (which were taped over)? I don't want to stick my screwdriver in there and screw something up...

thanks!

Im not sure about the 5th gen but my 4th gen is just like what your describing. the hole with the tape over it is the one to turn. do you know the sequence you need to turn it to reset the codes?

That's the problem. There are 2 identical holes with tape over them. I can't see in the holes because I can't get my head down there.

I think, based on the Haynes manual, I know how I'm supposed to turn it to reset it, once I figure out what to turn...

thanks,

Matt

The hole to the front of the car is where the screw is to diagnose and clear. The hole to the rear is where the light flashes the codes.

Turn ignition on (notch just before the car wants to turn over). Turn the screw CCW until it hits the soft stop. The light will then flash any codes it has. Turn the screw CW and it should clear the codes.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know.

Dumb question, since I can't actually see in the hole - is it a philips head or flat head?

Thanks again.

its a flat head. But the check engine light on the dash is what flashes the code. so look at the light on the dash.
