5th gear popping out?

Hello All. I'm new to the site, and as is usually the case, a problem has led me here.

Over the last 2 weeks my '02 SE-R has begun randomly popping out of 5th gear whenever I step on the accelerator. The nissan dealer up here charged me $50 to drive it and suggest I start replacing parts that 'might' be causing it.

So I thought before I went down that road, I'd see if anyone else might have experienced something similar?

The 02-03 transmissions were problematic. At one point there was a recall, but I think it was for 04's. Have the dealer run your VIN though, because you may be entitled to a free transmission.

If I recall correctly, it was a problem with the syncros. I'd get the VIN run and dive into the NHTSA's TSB and Recall section before I paid for them to replace anything.

thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to check into that, as I've already had my share of problems with this thing. I'm on my second engine (for the failed pre-cat problem) and this will now be my third transmission.........and I haven't even hit 90k yet!
