Hello all, this is my first post on these forums, though I have been a long-time reader.

Now to the gravy.

I have my engine set (RB25det) sitting in my garage, however I have a problem with the transmission. It will not engage 5th or reverse gears (one through to four are fine however). The shifter bushing is very sloppy (I've had the shifter plate off and first I thought one of the the centering pins were jammed, but it works, its just hesistant.

When I received the motorset, the transmission was jammed into fifth gear with shrink wrap (to protect it during shipping) tightly wrapped around it. I was going to take it to a transmission shop, but lets face it, after buying an RB25det motorset, my wallet cannot support professional inspection. I had to pull fairly hard on the shifter to move it out of fifth.

The transmission itself looks to be in perfect condition with very few miles on it. I was hoping there would be a chance that when I start to wind up the transmission (Not installed in my car yet) that it will magically sort itself out.

I should also note that when I spin the input shaft in first gear, the output yoke turns fine and there is no play in the rotation.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, as I am a poor student and simply cannot afford a new transmission.

The 5th and reverse gears both use the same shift fork assembly. The problem most likely lies in the assembly.

I figured as much.

Is there any way for a synchro to become jammed? I mean, that they will not line up until the transmission is spun?

It couldnt be anything as serious as say a broken selection fork, could it?

It's possible for a synchro brass ring to break. If you drain the gear oil, there may be tell-tale signs of broken brass ring pieces. Other then that, transmission needs to be taken apart to examine the components.

The shift fork for 5th/rev may be broken. You may be able to determine that by removing the shifter cover and looking at the fork.
