I doubt it. I haven't seen any aftermarket bolt-ons for it. I don't think they exist.

What about floor plates etc?

Does the J have pop-out panels, or would the floor have to be cut open for this? I would love to have a 5spd attached to my J.

Sounds like you have to have the floor cut. Not sure, though.

there will be a hole there. the auto shifter passes through the floor to reach the auto trans.

will it line up with the manual trans? that i dont know.

You mean the clutch cable? The clutch is in the transmission.

For an automatic, yeah. I'm talking about the clutch pedal for a 5 or 6spd.

you mean the clutch master cylinder push rod?

its a hydraulic setup.

and theres a good chance there is a plugged hole there, or its at least marked out in the firewall for easy drilling.

Hmm... 5-speed in the J would be a bit of work. You'd have to get a custom drive shaft for the 5-speed, considering that there is a probably a difference in size between the auto driveshaft and the manual drive shaft. You'd have to get a Z32 clutch master cylinder, and drill a hole in the firewall if there was enough room for it ( i think there is barely enough room), custom clutch line, mount a clutch pedal in the car, cut a hole in the transmission tunnel for the shifter, IF it lines up with the shifter, then there would be electrical work to do. Oh, and probably a custom transmission mount, i doubt the auto and manual have the same mounts and bolt points.

I've done four Auto - Manual swaps on 240's.... there is a decent amount of work involved, and the J would require a bit of fabrication and modification

Rough cost estimation?

Z32 Manual... they are getting quite rare.. $350 to $700Z32 Master cylinder $75 to $150Custom Clutch line, probably $100 to $175Z32 clutch pedal.... $50 or so from a junk yard?Custom drive shaft... The aluminum one in my Z31 was about $400Custom Transmission mount. If you know how to weld... $50, if you dont $200

So it would probably cost a Minimum of $1025 and a maximum of $1625... so actually if you look at the price of a shop rebuilding your RE4R01A... it's not that bad of a deal. I might try it when my auto goes...

ive been there done that, even have a build thread here, and none of you guys ever want to listen to me.

his prices estimates are crazy.

custom clutch line 100-175? wow.go by a $3 piece of brake line 60-70 inches long and bend it to shape with a $10 tubing bender, and it will look like oem.

z32 trans? 300 average price. there are 2 importers around here, they always have a couple laying around. may need to add in more for shipping.

master cylinder? you don t necesarily need one from a z32, you could use the one that fist the car best, as long as you pay attention to the piston diameter, but in reality that isnt such a big deal.

cluth pedal? no one really know which one fits do they? is there a manual converted car here? anyhow, just because the car has the same engine as a z32 doesnt mean parts that attach to the body will be the same.

drive shaft? got mine from shaftmasters, a nico sponsor, for 350 shipped, its aluminum. its just a s13/14 rb swap driveshaft, made to my length. the z32 trans uses the same yolk as the rb, so thats the front. the rear yolk is the same as other nissans. just need to figure out your length. steel would be cheaper then aluminum if you want to deal with that.

trans mount, something will work, its a nissan. in my m30, the z32 manual trans bolted right onto the auto trans mount and crossmember.

you could do this swap for 500 or less easy if you shop around and take the time to do it.

all depends on what you are going for.

it can also run $1500+

I was just searching for a thread about this and found this one, thats actually surprisingly recent. The only issue that I'm not too sure about would be the ECU for an OBDII car. I've been failing inspections because I have a trans code I can't get rid of and I've been wanting a manual anyway so I'm about to do this swap, but does anyone know if a 5sp 300z ECU in a j30 will cause it to fail? I've even asked my friend who owns an inspection station and he has no clue.

Would love to hear from someone who has actually done the swap.

Sorry for the semi-hijack Leuthesius

I forget the guy's name on here, but he was out of Texas...said he would do the swap for about $500 if I remember right. I cant remember too if that was with or without the transmission though.
