I thought this was interesting this morning on my way to the college. A 57ft sailboat (worth $750,000) goes missing at Charleston's Marina. I'm wondering how in the world someone steals a boat that big and no one around them sees it.

I couldn't read the story until I joined their free thing, if it redirects from that page to fill out a join free thing let me know and I'll read thru and pull out the good stuff from it.

I went on a one week sailing trip in the bahama's, we lived and sailed a 67 foot 2 mast boat. Nothing like anchor watch from 12-2 at night, you can see every star in the sky down there, especially out in the water. Sleeping on the deck was alot of fun too (when the weather was right).

You lucky bastard...I either want to do a bareboat charter (halfway working on my Captain's papers now) or rent a cabin in the mountains for my honeymoon, cant decide which yet.

For anyone that doesn't know where the harbor it was stolen from is located, I posted a link here. http://www.charlestoncitymarina.com/home1.html

It had to take a lot of planning for that boat. From looking at a map I found only route I see would have been perfect for them was to sail right out past Fort Sumter and out of town. (If I have thought of it just right). It would be stupid of them too to steal one that was published in magazines but it seems so far their plan has worked.

It could be a pirate :D

Do the boat, It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was a neat boat, a schooner built in the 30's for some rich dude, and restored in 92'. People were taking pictures of us sailing it because there are not very many boats like it anymore. It even had an old pirate style steering wheel :D

here is a picture of the boat:that picture really doesnt do the boat justice, there were 16 of us on board the whole week.

Getting the boat underway is very exciting, you feal like a real sailor. No winches or self powered sails on this boat, you stuck 3 people on the ropes for each of the main sails and gave it a heave-ho. We cook meals in the galley bellow, and ate dinner watching the most beautiful sunsets on the planet. Went diving right off the boat. Best vacation ever.

EDIT: and it was a 72 foot boat, not a 67 like I previously stated :D

You wanna know who "steals" a 57 ft sailboat, a repo man. They know how to walk up and take anything like it's theirs, cause by order of the fianance company it IS.

Speaking of ... where's Andy been"

Wow, those old style boats much different than modern sloop rigged boats, thats pretty cool that you got to learn how to sail one! I haven't gotten to sail on anything like that yet but that looks fun as can be :) If I do the bareboat thing it'll probably be something in the low 30's range though since I just want it to be the two of us on board and thats plenty of boat for two people ;)
