hey guys,

ive been having this .55 amp draw for a while now. it sucks. i finally got my lazy a$$ to go find the fuse that is causing this.

the fuse is located in the fuse box next to the battery, and its labeled Eng. Cont.it is NOT the big bulky fuses, its just the tiny 10 amp one.

i looked at the wiring diagram for the 1990 240sx in the FSM. and it looks like it connects to my eccs (AIV SOL) and a bulb check relay. The fuse directly under this is the fuel pump relay fuse, however on the wire diagram the two seem to be connected through some circuit.

anyone got a clue as to what could be causing the drain?? i only hooked up the essential wires from the ecu, and the car runs fine.

could it possibly be a wrong ignition wire connection (cause on the pinout i know there are a couple).

just trying to see if i could solve this without resorting to making a switch.

sounds like the car is being backfed some how, usualy in the efi wiring.

Yeah, you may have wired up that circuit to a 12v constant rather than a 12v switched. Back trace your wiring at the "dash" plug and confirm that everything is fine. Sometimes it can be rather confusing when dealing with 12v constant and 12v switched......

Try clening your battery i beat it will go away its called paracitic draw, clean the top with a damp rag and dry it off. and if that doesnt work do what the other guys are talking about

Why not just put a relay on it so that way it will turn off when the key goes off?

I've been having the exact same problem. What I've found is that the black and red wire from the rb harness in the engine bay if connected to the ignition wire causes the ecu to stay on when the key is pulled from the ignition. I was about to install a switch myself. I think I will go with ramius83's suggestion and double check my dash plug first though. I'll let you know what I find out.

thats whats weird about it. my ignition relay (white with purple stripe) is connected to the brown plug next to the battery at a wire that IS 12V switched when key is on, and 0v when it is off. thats why i was so baffled.

but with this switch i installed (maybe Yellow4g63 can explain this), it actually acts as a relay, because i can leave it off all the time, and the car still turns on. the only difference is if the switch is on, the ecu stays on after the key is off. if the switch is off, the ecu turns off with the key.

i connected the switch to the orange wire on the green ign. relay that does not have the white and purple wire on it (its on the other one), however, im not sure that matters. but it works!

I found my problem. There is this green wire with a yellow stripe coming out of the brown plug up next to the glove box. I had it tied into the black with red strip ign wire. Once disconnected the car starts normally and shuts off properly.

Now to figgure out why I did that.

I'm sure that green/yellow wire goes somewhere, or that I need to have something else hooked up to ign wire.

My ECU stays on as well, I will have to try that.
