I wanted to know if I could put a sr20det in a 510? It is an autocross only car so..... Any suggestions as to how I might do this?

My friend has a sr20 waiting to go into his 510. I have the ka24de in mine. since I think they swap out pretty much bolt for bolt, it shouldn't be tough. you'll have to modify the driveshaft to fit the tranny, but the engine should mount right up with some spacers.it's a popular swap.

oh, but for autocrossing, check the rules for the classes before buying anything. most likely, dropping this engine in will put you up against tube-frame race cars.

theres a bit more to it than spacers, especially with a turbo motor. you have to have the front crossmember reversed, you gotta cut a hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter which will be further back, you gotta shorten the driveshaft, wiring, radiator, and if you have a turbo motor, you need a custom turbo manifold and down pipe, since in stock form the steering shaft would have to run directly through the center of the turbo, than intercooler and piping, the list goes on forever. im doing a ca18det swap into my 510, which is very similiar. dont attempt this swap unless your confident in you mechanical abilities and your wallet.

Another suggestion (what I am doing). Leave the turbo in the stock location and trash the steering box, idler and drag link setup. Modify the 510 cross member to accommodate the 240SX rack & pinion setup. Involves some custom fabrication of the cross member and steering linkage between the rack and the steering column as well as the tie rod ends (510's have a bigger bolt size). Not for the faint at heart but is a more modern setup and gets around having to build a gorpy looking exhaust manifold.
