EDIT:instead of watching at pics ,I made a quick video.Hope you guys like it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6SDn4Xk1Sc

well finally its over and running...i just score a 1970 510 2 years ago...and last year i had the chance to get a salvage s2000...mmm lets see what are my options???

a bastard swap it is...!

yep, a bastard swap! i receive some hate, but also some love too...loli had a guy who just came to me on a datsun meet just to tell me he didnt like my swap... i think every to their kind, but i would rather play a little more..so why not? gts on f20, s13 on vq's , EG on K series.. why not a 510 with f20c?

here's the tale:

I would like to share my bastard swap just for kicks...

i started when finally bought my datsun 510 around september '06,then had to sell my recently finished built boosted crx, early 07...

then i had the chance to get a 01 ap1 to part it up; and around April 08 the 510 adventure started.to be honest i was really scared if i would chop away a decent 510 and throw away complete s2000.

heres the sacrifice i made, to sell my crx ! still miss my little bucket...

*cry*

enough teary memories.!

heres how i got it..picked it up at gardena, and drive it back to the valley...wich was a trip, because it really needed some working brakes ...

here's the donor...an nice s2k w / trunk bashed.

then pulled both motors out ... no funny work doing alone...

lifting the dime to test the sucker down...

after some clean up and paint anti-rust cosmetic stuff..

ordered some things and fuel adapters..

then motor went in.

then some wiring mayhem! a 30'ish old wiring mixed with the new..!

used the stock fuel tank with the s2k fuel pump...also had to re-route the gas lines and the brakes lines had to be made too...custom accel pedal, prop valve location and a lousy buggy hand brake who tends to slide ...

cleaned the subfloor and layed a new coat of bedliner

ordered some honda stuff...rsx-s muffler...

new clutch, custom driveshaft, sway bar .. etc.and after some couple of working weekends....

then after some time i got it off jacks to check the clearance..

the oil pan cleared 'bout 4" ! that meant i passed " bumps 101 ".

and finally.

still some work ahead, tuning, paint and also making my mind if ITB's would be a good idea to; upgrade hand brake, look for a stiffy suspention etc.

i short tale the building pics because it was a messy job.other stuff replaced: maxima brake swap, eclipse suspention, 280zx front brakes, s2k seats brackets, evo arm rest, s2k cluster bezel etc...

wanted to share progress so far.....the reason i choose the f20c...its because i knew a little more about the wiring and i had access to it.... had the chance to use a vq, but ...the f20 would be much fun for me...

im not a puritan...so sorry if this offended you..( nissan to nissan, toyota to toyota, honda to honda guys etc.. ) but i just love my datsun whatever engine it has..! it fun to drive..!

I like that a lot. My engines that belong in my cars look like dogs*** compared to that.

very nice, and the dime has to weight 600 or so lbs less than the S2k!

you might want to post a link to this thread in the hybrid section

mmhmmm.

I like the F20....it's a fine motor even left stock...it's hard to tweak a lot more out of them NA though....

not that you'll really need more in a car that light.

LOVE IT!! And not much gets me excited these days...I had this idea about 2 years ago when gas prices started to get out of control, but just couldn't afford another project. Glad to see someone went through with it and did it right! Good job. If you ever decide to sell...contact me first.

Exactly...

Whats not to love about it? The F20 is an awsome motor, power to liter ratio is almost untouchable from the factory. Mixed with a classic Datsun is pure win all day, everyday.

Well done.

hey mate...this is a fantastic conversion...me and a mate are going to try and perform this swap in a few months on his KP510

my main questions are as follows:

Did you have any issues with the sump?Did you go aftermarket or honda OEM ECU?What cross member did you use?Much tunnel bashing to fit the gearbox?Would you consider making another set of engine mounts/gearbox cross member?

Thanks

Matt

Hey xyzalvarez,
Ive got a 71 2door 510 that i want to drop an f20c into but i have a few questions about what ill need in order to make the stock wire harness standalone in the 510. If you dont mind id like to run a few questions by you maybe you could email me. I'd really appreciate any help from your experience you can give me. My main questions are whether ill need to run the s2000 gauge cluster and or other parts from the s2000. I have the motor and the entire wire harness and ecu but dont have anything beyond that. Just wondering what all i will need to make the motor plug and play without and check engine lights or codes thrown. Thanks for your time and i really appreciate any help you can provide.
