hey guys,i just sold my, what i thought, was a 50trim, .63 AR garrett t3/t04e..

i just got a call from the buyer this morning claiming that the turbo isnt a 50trim..

the turbo had 50 a/r stamped on the compressor and .63 stamped on the turbine manifold inlet.

he compared the turbo to a SC61 and said its WAY smaller.. i personally dont even know what a sc61 is.

anyways.. i just bought a super 60.. and i dont even have the money to refund this guy, but if i was wrong.. i guess i'll have to..

if anyone can help me with the turbo trim.. i'd greatly appreciate it!

[sparknotes]sold 50trim/.63 t3/t04e. (what i thought it was the entire time)buyer claims its not 50trim.no money to refund.need help, is it really not 50trim?

You can't tell the trim by comparing it to another turbo...ask him how he knows for sure its not a 50trim. Is he measuring anything? You can't simply look at it...you're safe.

Doesn't matter whether its a .50AR or .60AR you can still use a 50trim wheel.

A compressor or turbine wheel trim is ratio between the minor area and major area of the wheel. A/R is the Area of the housing nozzle divided by the radius from the turbo's axis to the center of the nozzle.

To determine the trim, you'll need to remove the compressor housing. Measure the major and minor diameters and compare them to the ones listed in the link below.

http://www.turboneticsinc.com/pa_compwheels.htm

For a quick reference, a T04E 50 Trim has a 2.122" minor and 3.00" major diameter.

Yeah you'd have to measure the wheel to know its trim. I dont think your buyer knows what he's talking about.

The Precision SC61 uses a much larger comp wheel and a T4 turbine housing, so I'd assume it'd look bigger than a T3/T4. The SC61 argument has nothing to do with the turbo he bought.

well.. now hes saying the housing looks too small.

like WDracing said.. housing doesnt matter as long as the compressor wheel is 50trim?

An SC61 does not use a t4 turbine. It uses the same t3 turbine as a 50 trim. Only difference between a 50 trim and an SC 61 is the compressor wheel size. The turbine housing, wheel, and compressor housing are exactly the same. Visually the turbo's look identical from the exterior including a .60 stamped on the outside of the compressor. So if the turbo sold is stamped .50 then it is smaller than the turbo it is supposed to be.

I got my specs from this page.http://www.precisionturbo.net/...3026I think youre right though as theyre all listed under the T3/T4 section of Precision's site.

Sorry for the false info...

this has the inducer and exducer sizes of t04e compressor wheels...have him bust out a big dial caliper and measure it...note the differences between a 50 trim T04E wheel and a 56 trim GT35R wheel (which a SC61 utilizes)...

if he thought they were supposed to be the same, tell him to go back and do his homework.

welp.done deal..he said he measured it with a micrometer and came out with 1.966 or something for the minor on the compressor.

its 2.122 or so for the 50trim..and there is nothing for 1.966, so i suppose i'll re-check it once i get the turbo back.

anndd.. you measure the very end of the compressor wheel to get the minor and the major diameter, right?

The minor is the diameter of the wheel at the top of the wheel (where the air enters the compressor. The major is the widest point of the wheel.
