what would be needed to make a vq35 achieve at least 500hp without forced induction? is it even possible?

In your G35's VQ35DE?

Probably need to start talking 14:1 compression or better, alcohol injection with massive injectors, the biggest cams you can fit with dished pistons, don't expect to make power below 8000rpm, intake manifold and headers designed for high-RPM breathing, etc.

Getting more than 100whp/L naturally aspirated is EXTREMELY difficult. Even bored and stroked to 4.3L or so, more than 400whp is going to be tough... on an all-race motor it might be be possible if you're willing to spend enough money.

Fork over $14,000 to Cosworth for a completely built NA motor, $4k-8k more bucks to Burns Stainless for a custom header and exhaust, $1k-2k more for the biggest cams you can get-- keep in mind you'll probably need several different sets of cams in your quest to find the most power), find the best intake manifold you can get...

(numbers are approximate...)

With the newer VQ35HR it'll be only slightly less difficult, but not by much.

so with an all motor setup i can expect 400hp if i do my homework? with the little that i know i was looking at a stroked engine to probably 4.3L and something with individual throttle bodies, properly matched with a good exhaust system and internals. Is that 400hp? Anyway it doesn't really matter because i am not a heavy racer, i was just curious.

No, that's not even close to 400whp... not by itself anyway. You're going to need EVERYTHING major for 400whp... big cams, valvetrain, headers, probably intake manifold, ECU, a stroker kit would definitely be required if you want to do this on pump gas (I think...)... and it'd all have to be tuned to work together.

e.g. the same headers you run for a 325whp street car are probably not going to be suitable for a 400whp car, they're probably going to choke it at the high end. ditto for cams-- JWT S2's or JWT C2's might be okay for a target of 325whp or 350whp but I think for 400whp you're going to need something truly monsterous, etc. etc.

500-600hp na is impossible on our motors as of now.

Its not easy to get with FI but it there. on 5% if that have this power level in a Z.

305hp is one of the highest 3.5l na Z power there is. Performance factory and Z1auto both have cars setup for this. with BC 4.2 high comp stroker, motec, and lots of money you can expect 15-20K for 400whp NA.

Where as I have over that whp FI for less than 10.

Yeah. Not cheap. Having driven more than a few 400whp+ vehicles, it's normally a hell of a lot cheaper to turbocharge it to do that than to get 400whp NA.

Well if you really want 400whp NA... buy an M5 or an E63. Less headache, plus by the time you've got $20k or more invested in the motor of your Z, you're really not all that far from a used E63 anyway.
