Over the past 14 years I have owned 5 Bimmers [528, 535, 540(2), 750]. During those years I had gotten pretty good at servicing my cars and I rather enjoyed going beyond the recommended maintenance intervals. Last year, I spent a day touring the BMW factory in SC and took a 1/2 driving school at their performance center--which further strenghten my love for the brand. I have been a long time member of the BMW club, and have been a strong advocate of the cars even before I purchased my first one.

A few weeks ago, I got the car buying bug. The BMW 335xi was in my sights--I had a ball driving it while doing high speed laps in SC. However, I did have concerns about the turbo problems club members were reporting. So before spending the big bucks, I decided to try out the G. I had read previous reviews over the years where the auto magazine editors often sited how close the G was to the German benchmark. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the G37x during my test drives. The fit and finish of the car was on par with the Bimmer, and the handling and performance was right up there too. I brougt one.

Overall, I am very happy with the new G and I have no regrets concerning leaving the Bimmer family. I won't miss the cooling system, transmission, and electronic issues that I had with my previous cars. I will miss the BMW mistique, the very active club events, the related status symbolism the brand grenerates. The $10k in cost savings will make me feel better, however.

Looks like we converted another one! Just kidding.

Welcome to NICO. You'll really like it here. There's a ton of information between all of the members here and it is a great forum.

I know you just bought it, but do you have any plans on mods or anything?

I have less than 400 miles on her. I have not thought much about mods yet.

Welcome to the other side... I too was a BMW owner up until 2002 when a 540i almost bankrupt me with repairs (cooling, electrical, dash pixels, mass airflow and on and on. Finally the dealer took the car for three days to try and cure an ongoing stalling problem. Their reply was we do not know how to fix your $63k car, but we'd like to try to replace the main engine wiring harness at your cost. I got rid of the car and the arrogant dealership wuth it. I've had 4 G35's since then and drive em like I stole em with never a problem or trips back to the dealer. You won't regret your move and don't be afraid to slap that gearshifter into DS and get on it. The engines ECU will learn your style of driving and it keeps getting better all the time.

Welcome! I came more from the American Muscle side. Love my G though. I don't know what I love more, the performance or my Music Box.

It is quite obvious that Nissan has work very hard to provide potential Bimmer buyers a very good alternative. However, there a number of minor things that I wish the G had:

1. Rain sensing wipers2. Powered head rest with memory 3. Tire pressure sensors that provides tire pressure for each tire (Acura)4. A more sophisticated four while drive system that does need the driver to tell it there is snow on the ground.5. Manual transmission for the four wheel drive cars6. Natural speech recognition--The Acura system is the best I seen--no commands to learn.7. Wood trim standard8. Rear folding seats--standard

With a $10k price difference, its very hard for me to justify a 3 series.

Note that there are a lot of folks that see the 'BMW Status' as a negative. And, I would think there are some folks that buy the Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura because of their name. I bought my G's because they are RWD Nissans.

Not so much into the name brand deal.....but that's just me

What is wrong with the Attesa? Find hard to believe not to like the AWD system we have. It is great.

It beats the 335Xi in snow and dry condition in every test I checked.
