A while ago, I saw a 300ZX TT that had a 6-speed transmission out of a 350Z. If I remember correctly, the guy said that he didn't use an adapter plate for the hookup, he got Nissan to fabricate the whole transmission housing so that it would hook up together. I'm just curious to see if anyone else had tried to do this and how they did it..

He had Nissan fab it for him? I find that hard to believe. It's a interesting idea and I know HKS makes a 6 speed for the Z32 but thats some money right there. I think the Z32 is geared relatively good why would want to switch to the 6 speed?

I don't think Nissan does much Custom engineering work

did your buddy maybe just add the 6 speed shift knob?

I'm sure it's possible, just a question of how many parts would need to modified or fabricated in order to do it, I've not seen the 2 trannies side by side to see how similar they are

Nissan is not in the business of doing aftermarket work for transmission swaps. I can assure you that the guy who supposedly had the 6 speed that Nissan fabricated the housing was 100% full of ****. I work for Nissan and we do not do that, period.

As NSR_S13 said, the Z32 gearing is outstanding, no real need to change. Although the HKS 6 speed sequential is an option.

i've only it seen it done with an adapter and the guy who did it said it wasnt really worth it, he's only left it in there because of all the work required to do it, its advantagous for our cars to not have 6 speeds i think.

I'd be more interested in getting a newer 97+ OEM transmission from japan as they fixed the weak servo issues, run ya about $3k though.

I have to agree. Its the same as if you were to use the S15 SR transmission over a S14 or S13. There perfect how they are.
