i have a 95 240sx that was originally auto that i swap to 5speed and everything works great but i only have one problem. Every time i am in 5th gear the oil light turns on and it only happens in 5th gear only. All wire harness are still auto harness and the car has the correct manual ecu for the year of the car (ecu in the car rightnow). i followed all of the wiring direction from this link to the T ( http://www.ka24development.com/cwilfert ... rical.html ).

I was thinking maybe the 5th position switch is bad but i wanna ask the nicoclub community first before i start buying parts i don't need.

BTW i have a stock ka24de motor

Any info. or help would be very grateful......TIA

So, can you turn on your oil light, simply by putting the transmission into 5th? Whether running or not?

Just disconnect the 5th gear sensor.

Yeah, I suppose if you also want to fix the fact that your oil light wont come on if you have low oil pressure, you're gonna want to chase it down.

yup oil light comes on weather the engine is running or not, as long as it is in 5th gear then oil light comes on. If i disconnect the 5th gear switch wouldn't i get a check engine light (i want to avoid the CEL). Thanks for reply guys, i will be looking into the problem on saturday due to me being out of town. Any more idea on what it could be i am all ears.

I don't think the 5th gear switch is tied to the CEL, but I could be wrong. Seems easy enough to try though.

Who made your transmission harness? There is some issues going on there. I would take it off and repair it. Shouldn't take too long to do.

The 5th gear switch won't throw a CEL if you disconnect it. To me, it sounds like you have a short in your harness, and any time you're in 5th, it's energizing the oil switch for the light. Since there's only a handful of wires in the lower harness, it should be easy to track down and see what happened.

Yeah, should be easy, but I wonder what's up. If oil light was mis-wired to CEL, that would be at the ecu plug and swapping pins I think. Also, if a gear switch is mis-wired, you can get that P0705 code. I don't think that one illuminates the CEL, but if it did and the above, then Oil light!
