Ok. Fun time! Sr swap complete, tuned, and running. Here's the issue. After driving maybe 30 minutes at highway speeds, the transmission was really hot. The short shifter was getting warm. That seemed normal to me, but just to be safe, I pulled the dust boot. When I did there was a funky smell. Very much like natural gas. The transmission was rather hot. To the point that I couldn't touch it for longer than a second or two. I am running catless and with an ichiba exhaust manifold. The exhaust is right next to the transmission which could be a big part of the issue, but I wanted to run it by everyone.

Here's the setup.

SR20DET @262whpSPEC drift spec clutch/flywheelauto to manual conversionstock SR driveshaftNIsmo engine/transmission mountstranny was recently filled with fully synthetic 75W 90.

What should I do? I need to drive the car cross country soon.

Transmissions get pretty hot lol. Don't know if yours is excessively hot though I've never felt my trans after driving it

Make sure it was serviced correctly, you might be running low. That will cause it to run hot. Remove fill plug and check level with your finger. It should be filled up to that point.

If it's OK, I would drain into clean bucket. Drain oil through paint strainer. Check for shavings and metal. Check drain plug magnet.

I've never smelled that s*** before. The valvoline reeks, but that is definitely what I was smelling. I still think I'll wrap the exhaust from the elbow to the mid pipe to help drop temps.

Nissan trannys always run a little hotter.. What blood are you using for your transmission? 75-90w of what? Redline MT90 is the way to go.

My transmission gets hotter than I would think it should too. I run RP 75 w90. I have a new rear seal but it seems to slowly seep out and I can smell that funky gear oil smell. My oil level is always up to level tho.

Something else to think about, the air that flows around the engine and runs under the car flows all around the transmission. You may just be feeling some of this heat. I know that if you dont have the 4 bolt dust boot installed and you open a window the heat from the engine bay will come through the shifter hole and flow out the window making it quite hot in the car.
