5 speed A/T EX35 4th gear RPM- Weird.....

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi guys,

So I was merging on the highway this morning and there was a semi that I was trying to beat while merging. I was at 3rd gear and floored it then shift to 4th gear. The car was pulling very hard (70+ MPH) on 4th, then I noticed the RPM on 4th seems to get stuck at 3K RPM and very very very slowly creeping up pass 3k and above... It just weird, i cannot remember if this is normal or not?

I got used to seeing the RPM bounced from 7K (2nd gear) and bounced back to 5K RPM after shifting to 3rd gear. I expect shifting to 4th the RPM is at least 3.5 -4 RPM but maybe not? Even while cruising at 4th gear at 65MPH and I tried to floor it a bit , the RPM jumps to 3K rpm and stays there longer and if I press the pedal longer then it slowy start to creep up to 3k + rpm . I mean slooooowly....

Can anyone pls. see if this is normal for the EX35 5 speed transmission?

Thanks a lot!

It seems like mine does stay at 3000 rpm at about 65mph in fourth , but I never checked at 70mph so I'll Check for ya, stay tuned

It might be part of the normal behaviour..... due to rev matching?

Yes, I tried it this morning. Went up to 70-75mph in fourth. It was indeed at 3000 rpm and in fact went down to 2900 even at 75mph.. Odd. but such is life.

Mine acts the same... it's a very long 3rd gear.

That is good to know that it is normal. Have you timed your rwd ex35 0-60? Just curious what the real world number for the RWD.

The only solution is to use a Manual mode.
