LOL, Jesda and his nines .

Did you notice the G20 at the bottom of his page?

How long did they offer the 929 with a stick?

88-90. Almost no one ordered the 5-speed option.

as long as you dont call it 9ine deuce it can be whatever you want

i also think it sits too low, at the same time better offset wheels could make it look better, its not that low, maybe another 1/4 to 1/2 up

Also, I have always wondered, why is it that some people are censored and others arent?

dont worry about what i call it, I came up wid the name as more of a user name for message boards, i never really refer to my ride as 9ine Deuce.

the car really doesnt sit that low, i chopped 3" outta the front springs and the rear is stock cause theres nothin available to drop it, i added an extra front air dam so thats why it looks so low. i later found out with some modification i can put some RX7 coilovers in there. the wheels are 11lb BBS rims form the early 90's RX7 convertible but i painted the mesh black jus to hold me over. the car is sitting in storage right now and once it comes out it will receive some aggressive dish, low offset 18's aswell as a swapped twin cam V6 turbo or a 13BT rotary. Insurance brand VIP body kit is also in consideration.

that's to bad. I'd leave it just the way it is, it's beautiful. It doesn't need deep dish 18's, or a VIP body kit. That stock paint looks immaculate, would be a shame to tarnish that. I love the meshies on there too.

the best part about the 929s that they are cheap and to buy a 2nd mint one for a full project car is about $1000 away, theres a few of these (not 5 spd) tucked away in garages that eventually will come up for sale. all is not lost and i do respect and admire the clean body lines of this classic Mazda. the paint looks pretty sic, its 17 years old now and isnt that immaculate up close as there are a few scratches and dings.

Thats one thing I always liked about the tan metallic paint on my first 929. It lasts a really long time and always looks pretty darn good. My second 929 was white, and started to peel off the fender in a high-pressure car wash. I just laughed when it happened.

Same thing happened to this guy, but he kept spraying it until it looked like a dairy cow:

1st get 929's ftw.

I think it's one of the best looking big Japanese sedans of its time. They've got some issues though, so I've never made the leap and actually purchased one.

It'd be cool with a Cosmo swap.

I had heard something about electrical gremlins, and then something about interior plastics cracking all over the place.

Never had either of those problems?

Was the 1st-gen 929 still called the Sentia in the Japanese market? What was the chassis code?

For 88-91, the upper center console plastics were very brittle if exposed to heat. They cracked and broke on my first 929. The solution is to buy a glue-on wood trim kit.

I had minor electrical issues on both. The first had a brake warning light that came on when I used the brakes despite there being no brake problem. Car #2 had hazard lights that came on when I used the horn. Also, sometimes I had to jiggle the key on that car to get it to start. Lock cylinder was probably worn out. Nothing major, just minor nuisances.

The biggest annoyance was the factory radio. I like the way it sounded with four full range speakers (two in dash, two in rear doors) and two 6" woofers on the rear deck. Unfortunately, the cassette head units were prone to failure. It sometimes required slapping or shaking to get it to come on. I ordered a used one which was, interestingly, already covered in repair stickers. It started acting up the same way. During a road trip to Seattle we took this emo grunge kid with us. The radio died on our way through Leavenworth and he started babbling about his family and drug addictions. Before he began crying I grabbed the radio, yanked it out, and shook the **** out of it to get it to come on. I was never more relieved to hear Christian rock.Eventually I just wised up and bought a Clarion CD changer.

The rest of the issues I had were all age related. I came to rely on mazdarecycling.com to keep my cars going.

After owning a Q45, I still have an inexplicable fondness for the 929. I think I need to buy another to get it out of my system. Its definitely a fun car to own and drive.

my dash plastic cracked near the drivers door when i slipped on ice and smashed my knee on the dash, a small crack, nothin too bad. i did end up cracking a peice in the middle slightly when i was putting my dash back together. all in all it is cracked and is brittle, do you have a pic of this "wood" trim ?

i replaced my lock cylinder a while back

i outfited my car with Alpine as soon as i could but the stock system was pretty cool.

i also had the brake light warning stay on on forever but after replacing all the bulb it still stayed on so i cut a peice of electrical tape to cover the annoying light perfectly and it has bothered me in 2 years.

a very good car none the less, i still need to buy a 929S to get it out of my system, a real fun car to drive.

the platform is HC and its called a Luce in Japan, bigger brother and parts sharing with the RX7...

This thread intrigues the hell out of me.

When I bought my two 929s, I had NO information. Just me, some wrenches, and some luck.

The wood kits used to be on ebay all the time 3-4 years ago. I think a picture of it is still up at my 929 Yahoo group.

Lots of 929 accessories were available back then. I got brand new matching OEM upholstery for $50! Apparently leftovers from the factory in Hiroshima? The timing was perfect, since a girl puked in my back seat. I tried to be the nice guy and give her a ride home. Never again.

i felt the same way when i bought my 929 in Jan 03, i went looking for info from message boards and there was nothing out there, the same went for modifications. i had to start translating japanese Luce sites to find out what was really good.

do you have the link for the wood trim kit ?
