5 spark plug wires???

i noticed that there are 5 wires coming out of the distributor, 4 going to the engine and one leads off to something. what is this fifth one for and if i get new wires will it come with this fifth wire?thx.

one goes from the coil to the center of the distributor, the other 4 go to the plugs

make sure you only do one wire at a time
