The title explains it basically.I'm going to be doing a sr20 conversion, but slowly. I've been looking at doing the 5 lug conversion, but wonder what advantage it offers over finding better brakes for the stock setup and going from there, and how much money the conversion would cost.

I'll be working on my suspension for awhile after I get the car, then doing the swap, and wonder whether it is worth the extra time/hassle/money to get the swap done. I'll be doing as much racing as I can get into (not drag), and am a hard driver off the track too, so braking power is important, but is it really worth it?

5lug gets you more RIM choice i think. As for brakes I don't think it matter much cause most of times when you convert brakes it converts it to 5lugas for me i am sticking with 4 for right now

I know that 5 lugs can help you put more power down to the ground than 4 lugs.

if you go with the 300z conversion, you then get access to use of all the 'big brake kits' made to fit the 300z....ie the Brembo Big Brake kit...there are more options out there as far as big brake kits, and obviously the ones for the 300z have more braking surface then the 240 big brake kits (which IMO arent as available as the 300z ones).....i guess technically you could have a brembo big brake kit drilled to fit 4 lug...but thats off topic : )

and im sure i spelled somethings wrong there K, no need to correct me : )

the 300z big brake kits are very very nice...the SCC project 'silvia' is using the brembo big brake kit i believe, if you want to see the size of what it actually looks like inside a 17" rim : )

The SCC siliva is using the Brembo Gran Turisimo kit, Brembo also makes larger rotors for the 300z, but the GT kit comes with the whole deal... including calipars from I think the F50 (could be F40). But that kit costs $3,000. So if you can afford the brakes, a 5 lug conversion is nothing. If you just want to go up to 300z brakes, I think heavy throttle sells a conversion that uses Brembo rotors from a z, z calipars, and 240sx rear rotors and some braided steel lines. Thats probably the best choice for the money, IMO.

hmmm...might be an option for me, thanks for the info.

While I do some more research on this, about what will the conversion cost?

I have seen people in Japan use the Z32 (R32) four pot brakes on the 4 lug hubs....depends on the rims you have. Most people will take the 5 lug rotor and have it re-drilled for four lug.....

Cheap and easy for you guys in the states....one of my buddies did it as a DIY project....no problems with it.....

As long as you don't have crazy *** power then that should be all you need. Just will depend on your rims. Thinking about going this route with my 180SX, if the GTST brakes will fit behind my watanabe wheels without spacers.

damnit, more research.

I don't think that mine will ever have more than 300whp, but my major problem is that I have in the past noticed serious brake fade when I've had some of my heavier friends in my car in the country. One time my brakes went out almost completely with only one of my friends (300lbs, gotta get him to excercise), and I have 4 people in my car at many times). Add to that my driving style, the racing I anticipate, and the insanely unpredictable appalachian roads that I drive way to fast on, and I think that the upgrade may be worth it.

Silvia Mirage. I can get you used calipers with brake pads (Depending on what kind) I suggest ordering Rotors from the states. For around 350 bucks. Or check this website it has the whole conversion kit expensive. let me know if you want me to get you brakes.

No thanks, I have to wait to get a parking space at the university that I'll be attending in two months first :angryfire(they have a lottery and a waiting list for the spaces, so I'll be riding a bike for awhile.

A little off-track but maybe you guys can help me out. A friend of mine just talked to a guy who works at a junkyard to try and get me the 5 lug hubs. This guy told him that the 5 lug hubs are the same as those from a Maxima( i forgot what year but i think it was around '92). Is this true and if so, are the hubs all i need to do the 5 lug swap on a 4 lug 95 240sx

Thanx for the help
