Whats up everyone. I just bought a 5 speed 280z transmission for my 74 260z to replace the 4 speed. I dont know what condition the transmission is in so I'm going to take it apart. Are there any transmission rebuilding kits out there? Are there any manuals that you would recomend (I'm going to use the haynes 240-280z manual.)? Any suggestions will be well appreciated. thanks:ylsuper

You can buy a good used 5 speed for alot less than the bearings and seals required to rebuild a dead one. Thats assuming you have the correct tools for the job. Rebuilding a transmission requires some experience. You always screw up the first one. Sometimes the first 3 or 4.

I see rusted out 280Zs with 5 speeds and healthy drive trains routinely sell for less than $500.

Think of all the nifty parts that will give you.

You can even use a '83 ZX and swap the entire drive train, FI and all.
