Here's the deal:

1992 240sx SESuper Hicas package 160k miles (port and polished at 100k)5spdChampagne colorpower everything, CD, alarm, etc

called the guy up and asked about condition, he said it is in pretty much perfect condition and runs real strong, then again he couldn't be older than 17-20. I don't think he abused it because he said he's been keeping it in perfect condition.

Anyway, bottom line, asking $3200. That too much for a '92 SE with 160k? This is in SoCal mind you... Also, the "port and polish" thing. You think he means rebuilt or just port and polished, or what? I'm not sure what exactly a port and polish accomplishes, so if you guys could fill me in that'd help. I'm about to run a search on it as well.

Thanks for your input again:)

:withstup , also, porting and polishing the head is just using CNC machnies to clean anytihng out of hte head, and polishing it with a protectant, wont give a lot of hp or anytihng, but shows he knows a lil bit to go through the progress

Sounds like a pretty fair price.. offer 3 cash IMO... the description of the car sounds similar to one up here that i've had my eye on. 3 grand isn't too much to pay if it's something you want. hell, my friggin atv cost twice that when i bought it new.

tell him u have 2500...let your friend hold 500...and if he really ain't dealing with 2500, ask your friend (in front of him) to borrow 300 and tell him all you have is 2800. and if he still aint' taking it give him what he want i guess(only if you really want the car) one of my teacher taught me that ...he said he always use that to lower the prices..but it didn't work on me when i went to get my car.

he said he was pretty firm at $3200, he rejected a couple guys who lowballed him. I was thinking of offering $3k in cash straight up, and if he doesn't take it then just give in... This is assuming its not sold before i get a chance to check it out :)

Have you even checked out the car in person first? Before you even consider buying, you should test drive it. Inspect it. Check out the car first, and definitely give it some thought (go home, sleep on it, and come back if you need to). I thoroughly checked out about 5-6 cars with my dad or a friend before i finally bought mine. Remember, if youre not totally feelin it, its better to wait. That's what i told my friend when I was helping him check out this HICAS S13. Never give in to impatience.

If i have time, I'd be happy to tag along and compare the pros and cons with my car. I'm in UCSD, La Jolla, and I've owned my 91 S13 fastback for a little over a year now so i know a few things to especially look at (sunroof, hatch, dash, antennae, little things, etc) . Good luck.

holy crap, another UCSDer!

anyway, the only prob is the car is in North Hollywood, a good 2 hour drive (er, a long way to hitch a ride from a friend) so I am trying to only make one trip. I would DEFINATELY test drive it first. I don't know if it'll even be available this weekend when I want to go check it out (I have to call the guy again, seems there's a lot of interest).

It would be much easier if there were more quality 240sxs for sale around San Diego:(

anyway, if you want to meet up some time I'd love to check out your car and talk 240s with ya, give me a holler![email protected]AIM: TheSaxBear

so nobody's worried about the high mileage? 160k is a lot of miles, and I don't want the car going out on me very soon. Sounds like its in good shape though. Maybe I should just buy Black240's engine when he does the motor swap :pface

it's a young guy selling the car, says he work at a shop and did all the work himself though and its in 'really good shape'. I just don't want to have to replace the engine a year or even 2 from now, thats too much work for a $3200 '92.

ack, problem is I only have time to go up there (2 hour drive) once, this saturday. It will be sold by next weekend so if I want it I have to buy it on Saturday. That means I need to be sure of everything pretty much before I go because I am mooching a ride as well. I also would need to withdraw the cash tomorrow. This is beginning to become more and more unlikely.I would love to have the car and 240s are impossible for me to find, but I've reached the "second thoughts" stage...:( Anyone else want to chime in some opinions? I appreciate al lthe help.

thought about that, not sure I want to get one though, they have less space than even 240s... plus i want a 4 seater if possible (I know the seats are tiny, but 4 seats nonetheless), and if I got a 300zx I couldn't get anything but the TT model...

Get it so we can stop listening to you ask how much we would pay ;) JK, I would be inclined to pass, it seems expensive for the mileage (but things are cheaper here in tx).

I'll probably pass since its so far away and everything is so sketchy. Sorry to bother you so much, I'll cry alone now because nobody likes me:(

jk:) right now there's a closer s13 with 169k miles (maybe i'll swap the motor) and an s14 with some bad paint i am looking at. We'll see what happens...

ey rockenreno , well i do love the 91-93 240sx a lot but if i had a second choice of cars from that same time period i would go with a 90-92 toyota supra. its pretty much the same concept : 4 seater , rear wheel drive , lots of fun , and of course a lot of performance upgrades doable. im sorry if someone is offended by the shift into the supra but two of my cousins had 86 supras as their first cars. drove like a dream.

just gotta look out for the head gasket though. I thought about buying a mk III turbo but decided it was too heavy and too much headache. Still a really nice car though.

I agree. I looked at them and thought about them, but I love the 240 too much to get anything else now :)
