Car: making cars go fast

Post

Well, I've figured the first step out. It's a pain in the a$$ and wallet to do it, but it's mostly a matter of massive amounts of man-hours. The problems mostly occur with the drive shaft, clearance for the necessary latter bars, and clearance for the huge transmission. Welding motor mounts to the frame, replacing the radiator, and stuffing it all under the stock hood is quite a hassle, but not impossible. I've ended up fashioning a short cowl over the carbuerators to allow for the necessary clearance. Since the engine is so large, there is very little room left to accessories, such as A/C. Ergo, I forgot about the A/C and had to move the battery into the back hatch. Does anyone know how to make a custom length driveshaft or know of a company that specialises in them? I need one bad! The Mustang driveshaft is way too long. Any suggestions?

DOOD, there should be many machine shops/driveline specialty shops somewhere near you that can make you any length of driveshaft you want. Any industrial type of area, or group of manufacturing facilities is usually where i find such machine shops. They can build you anything! motor/transmission mounts, drivelines, trusses, reinforcements, anything.

oops, i left out that I've been daydreaming about a, sigh, BOSS302, or maybe just a regular iron block 302, in a 240.

it should be just as possible as the GM powered 240SS that Aries owns.

You can also try your local 4+4 shop, they tend to do alot of driveshaft work or know a shop. I see your in Fl.! If in the Orlando area try Advanced Driveline.

I haven't asked about it, and for some reason, no matter how much i wish and want and daydream, I still haven't found a shiny all aluminum BOSS 302 in my garage. I'm still looking though, maybe tomorrow i'll do some cleaning and see if it's behind my workbench.
