Going to look at a 1975 and it was listed as a 4x4, I am just wondering what year they started producing them as I can not find any information on this topic. Will post pictures if I buy it or not.

Cheers

From what I have heard Datsun never produced 4x4's.  a company here in the states took and converted them to 4x4s.  Of course I could be wrong.  I do beleive the chassis is a jeep???????

Yes you are right, the front end was out of a cj. Near restored my a**, I don't even know how the cab was still on the mounts were so rusted, and not to mention the brush, yes brush, paint job over the worst bond job ever. All and all not a total loss but for the price, $1800, not worth it. My friend took a photo I'll post it asap. Still on the look out!!

Cheers

Datsun did produce 4x4's using agreements with other companies for customers.  I have seen them with factory 4x4 from 1970 with a 521 and all the way into the 620 trucks.

I have been looking myself for along time and now I have a 74 620 4x4 factory.  Its all 5 lug heavy duty locking hubs, they used Jeep parts for these back then.

620 conversions were done by several companies in the 70's as "dealer options". All of the 4x4 conversions were done using Dana 20 transfer cases and Dana 30 front axles. You will find as many 6lug as 5lug, as it was the different companies that decided how to do them. Mine is six lug.

If you look long enough, you can find running 620 4x4's in Oregon and Washington under $1000.

The first factory made Datsun 4x4 that I can remember being shipped to the USA was the 1980 720. It had a L20b engine! It was the last year off that engine! I know of a 73 620 with an Low Manufacturing 4x4 kit. Spencer Low made these back in the 70's . He was an off-road racer for Nissan and the last that I heard of he was the owner of Arcadica Nissan.

So you are saying a Dana 20 will fit on a Datsun 620 Trans? Will it fit on a 1979 5-speed?

The 73 620 that I seen has the transfer case mounted to the frame and has a short drive shaft connecting it to the transmission. This is the same type of set up that was used on the Marmon-Harrington conversions back in the late 50's. I have also seen a 1964 1/2 ton Chevy Factory 4x4 that is built the same way. It has a 3 on the tree and a 292 6cyl. Also, I have owned 3 Suzuki Samurai's and they also have a transfer case mounted seperate from the transmission.
