I have a 2000 pathfinder. It always went into 4x4 and came out pretty much the instant I shift it. It still goes right in but lately i have trouble getting it out. Seems like I have to come to a complete stop and even back up sometimes to get it back in 2wd. Never had to do that before. I did change fluid in the transfer case.
Anyone know what I should do?

Are you shifting according to the directions on page 5-20 and forward of the owner's manual?

I have not read that. For years even while driving I just push the lever up to 2wd and it would come right out, now it won't.

Irongoat, what you are seeing is perfectly normal behavior for all three Pathinders I've had over the years ('87, '95', '01).
Don't worry about it.
