I have a 1999.5 pathfinder and in 4WDh it works good and when thrown into 4WDL i have no problems but when i go to dis-engage back to 2wd it grinds even when the shifter is in N or P IDK why this happens. Also when driving some times the suv holds RPMs as if it were stick and i am miss shifting.

There all good (fluid) My parnets are the first owners and i know the car hasnt been beatn on and this problem has happened only when in 4wdL feels as if the (fly i guess) is stil spining and not letting the car go into 2WD until i shut the car off. Will this have a neg affect on my transmission aka the RPM's holding

This may sound stupid but did you read the manual in regards to when and how to use 4-low? You need to be completely stopped and I believe the trans needs to be in N. I just purchased a 99 and I found the transfer case shift lever to be odd compared to the Fords I'm used to. I did get some grinding as well into 4-lowbut I think it was only because I was not shifting it properly. You have to push down for N and 4-low. Weird but I'll get used to it. Hope this helps.

Yes pushing Down (into the lever firmly) first And then dropping it into low is key. Otherwise you will get some grinding. Takes a little practice.

I know as i stated that in the question with the car in n and the lever being pushed down but it only grinds coming out of 4wdL not going in it kinda nerve racking
