4wd problem with nissan cefrio

I have a clunking noise in my cefrio only from a standing start, it dosen't do it if your moving then plant it. I think it is to do with the 4wd because every now and then the 4wd light comes on and the 4wd dosen't work ,it then won't make the noise. Any help would be great any information on how the 4wd system works on the cefrio would be a help thanks
