Hey, i'm planning in dropping a rb26dett into my 98' 240SX. I just wanted to know is there anyway I can make the car itself AWD, since the skyline itself is AWD. So is their anyway?

You could certainly try, but I wouldnt. I imagine the costs of importing and modifying the 4WD system both physically and electronically would be a nightmare. Im not sure of the wieght of an RB with the 4wd setup still attached but I imagine handling changes would be expensive to correct. I know of no 4WD 240's in Japan, but I do know there are plenty of 2WD RB26's on that side of the pond.

Hmm, what about 4wd from the Xterra and keeping the KA? It'd be easier to locate at least...

so you went against everyone's advice and decided to jump right into an rb26 swap... and now youre thinking about adding 4wd? do you understand the concepts involved in doing this? do you have the money it would take to complete this kind of work? were talking tens of thousands in fabrication work here. i dont care if you have cousins in japan or whatever to hook you up with the parts youre going to need, can they also fly it over here so you wont spend a couple thousand in shipping? what about the work on the frame to get the 4wd system to fit? what about the custom components youll need to adapt it to your current drive system?

sorry to sound like an ***, but this would be interesting to see done, but i dont think it would ever be practical or useful. the added weight would mean youd have tuned sr20 and rb25 guys spanking you at the track, and for the cost you could have imported an r34...

just. not. feasible.

as for the xterra option, i too have thought of this,.. but... i came to the conclusion that it will never work, with a hood on.... the 4 wheel drive for suv and truck are much different from awd on cars... the truck/xterra layout puts the 4 wheel drive componets nearly completely under the motor, (not entirely, but id say 60+% under the motor) this would leave no ground clearance.. unless you raise the engine mounts, thus the no hood from earlier....

and if you would have gone to the post i linked earlier, you will have seen that in order for the awd of the rb26dett to work, you would need to notch the front frame rail where the awd output shafts are, also make enough room for the awd transmission, and numerous other things

all in all, the swap is possible, but only if you have 30-40k and a competent shop to put it in, or you can weld/ custom fab anything you will need... this will still be a 15k+ swap,

with enough money and skill anything is possible. Weigh your wallet and available skillset and see if it's heavier than an RB26DETT and 4WD transmission.

I always wanted a AWD S-chassis, but not at the cost of reliability or feasability.

can't you just cheat and use an AWD front diff to split power to the front wheels and rear? I mean it'd be crude but still awd...

Gr3yG0os3 you asked a question and people are giving you their opinions. If you can't take constructive criticism, then you shouldn't ask these kind of questions. You have to understand that we get a lot of people here that jump on the S-chassis bandwagon and talk about their plans to build a super-duper JDM Tyte 1000+hp AWD Sylvia(Gotta have the wrong spelling ) so they are just a bit over defensive.Like it has been said before, anything is possible as long as you have the financial resources and most likely, if you have to ask how much it would be you probably can't afford it. If you are still intent on proceeding with your project, more power to you and good luck with it, but there is no need to be rude when other members are just trying to voice their opinions after you asked them to.

i summed it up for you in three words in case you didnt want to read my long post. all the information you requested was there. and i think its funny that you ask people to "please shut up" on a forum when youre asking questions. are you unsure of how it works or something? at least youre polite about it, i guess...

I'm sure it's possible to do this, you can accomplish almost anything drivetrain-wise with enough custom-fabbing.

It'd be functionally retarded though, for what it's going to cost, you may as well just go pick up a street-legal GT-R. I imagine you could buy a nice R33 for what this project would cost...

Okay, this is out of hand.

Here's what I think about you, goose. It's just my opinion, okay? Some people can't swim, right? Well, you can't learn. For the last flippin' time... SEARCH. What people are telling you is that you don't know shǐt about what you're asking. So fix that.

The AWD system you're thinking about dropping into your car (whatever it is.. if it's not a Skyline or you're not a performance shop looking for a name, you're a fool for trying) is Nissan's ATESSA system. Do a search with that. If you sucessfully find the information I'm thinking of, you'll back the hell off this idea in a heartbeat. YOU SIMPLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE ASKING.

Calling HashiriyaS14 stupid was a really dumb move. You tend to make stupid decisions, I've noticed. Go ahead and reread your other thread like it wasn't you posting. Hopefully you'll see what I mean. Whatever nettiquette or manners you would expect us to go by when addressing you is gone because you conduct yourself like a all-knowing pompous d!ck. What's ironic about that, of course, is that you are probably the least educated person posting in this thread.

So for the last time... SEARCH. And don't think of yourself as special or different, okay? In case you didn't notice, the Nissan community has about a million bandwagon jumpers just like you pouring in. This kind of ignorance and blatant disrespect that you've shown us IS NOT HELPING YOUR CASE. I'm all about helping n00bs, but I've had it up to the jaw with the kind that don't listen to advice or opinions when they ask for them.

You don't like what I said? I don't care. Don't waste your time responding. As far as I'm concerned, you're a lost cause.

Anyway, the answer to your question, if it'll end this God-forsaken thread, is YES, it's possible. With money and time, anything is possible. [/thread]

Do you ******* understand that i'm not gonna do it, for the last time I'M NOT GOING TO DROP A AWD SYSTEM INTO MY CAR!!! I'm just asking if it's possible, thats all. Maybe I do jump from one conclusion to another, I just make up my mind like that and act on impulse, so what? I do what I want. So understand i'm not dropping all ALL WHEEL SYSTEM into my car I'M NOT. What you said about searching, your probably right, just waste my time going through hundreds of threads, very smart, why not just get direct answers from you people! THINK!

its ok goose i knew who you were talking to, and i also saw that you didnt say please this time

what youre doing is asking a very general question, which, when coupled with the information you have provided us with (your previous thread) leads the deductive thinker to believe that you wanted to attempt it. just in case that wasnt the case, i left my original answer in generalized terms so you would be able to figure it out, if you couldnt from everyone else's opinions.

however, you then proceeded to select which answers you wanted to hear and discard the others or dismiss them with a "shut up" comment. after masticatingcow let you know EXACTLY what was up, you reiterated your belief that your way of doing things was better than the forum's established guidelines that the rest of us have accepted and use to our advantage.

you cant expect people to hold your hand. you asked a question, you got your answer. if you would rather waste everyone else's time and the forum space to ask questions that have already been asked rather than spend an extra 5 minutes (tops) to use the search feature, expect someone to let you know. youre lucky that anyone even included as much information as they did in their responses.

I have had just about enough of this guy... Ban him and send his *** over to play with his dumb friends at FA or Zilvia... Dude all of the stuff you asked was less then a minute away using either

OR

I used to be a dumb *** n00b like you who asked questions without searching... that lasted all of... oh well one post of people yelling at me.. I learned and I search..

You on the other hand have been here for far to long and have been told far to many times... you're like a stupid dog that will not stop pissing in the house... the only way to make it learn is to shove it's nose in the piss and beat it!

SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!! Then ask...

As a side not DO NOT put an RB26Dett in your car unless you have first!

A) Upgraded the suspension

And

B) gotten some nice big Wide sticky tires...

I used to be able to spin the stock wheels easily in first or second with my KA24E and in all gears if the road was wet.. Insted of putting cash into a turbo that I knew the car would not be able to handle the extra power from I bought better tires and wheels.

Now that I can't spin the wheels anymore and the car can use the extra power it's time for turbo...see what i'm getting at.. logical steps in upgrading your car.....

thank you masticatingcow. What you wrote is what I've felt during the last 3 months or so of reading the 240sx boards.and greygoose, you say you're dropping a rb26dett in, then ask if the AWD system is possible to put in. How did you think people would take that question?

Well then, I suppose I'm glad I didn't post all the stuff that I almost posted in here yesterday in response.

I'd really rather not get dragged into this, but if you want to last any amount of time on this forum, or really any *good* automotive forum, you need to learn how to search. That is a quintessential piece of forum etiquette. It is not the responsibility of any user here to reiterate what is already contained in other threads simply because you don't want to take the time to look around. What you call "direct answers" will unfailingly be interpreted as a deliberate waste of time on just about any automotive forum that I can think of, that's just how it works. As in any group or organization, people will treat you with infinitely greater respect if you understand the implied set of rules in effect here and work within them. That includes using established resources, like searching.

In regards to doing x, y, or z to your car, have you purchased the car yet? If not, then obviously that needs to be the first priority. If you've got it already, congratulations. Fun cars, aren't they? Post some pics up, you'll get some good recommendations, and we can help you take it from there.
