I just performed the 4wd diagnostic and got the following codes. 5 11 12

My Pathfinder is a 2001 LE with 400,500 miles. Looks and runs great ....like brand new...........replaced transmission about 2 years ago. never had any problems other than routine maintenence and replacing all 4 cat converters, and new exhaust.

405k miles? Damn. Is your engine consuming any oil? Have you applied threadlocker on your power valve screws to prevent them from being ingested?

You don't have four cat converters, just two. The two rearmost components are resonators, not catalytic converters.

Page TF-61 of the factory service manual lists trouble code descriptions with relevant pages for diagnosis procedures. I'd try following those as best as you can.

Welcome to NICO.

No oil consumption..............it is all highway driving and I change the oil between 3,00-5,000 mile. I keep it topped off between changes and it may use a quart or so. A tech told me that since it was all highway I didn't have to change every 3,500.

I will download the manual and follow.

Interesting. Highway driving is very easy on the engine oil as long as there are no other issues (coolant entry, improper air filtering, etc). A 5,000 mile interval is quite reasonable with mostly highway driving, and you could likely go 7,500 if using any synthetic oil. What oil and filter do you usually use?

Have you kept up with maintenance of other lubricants - transmission, differentials, transfer case, engine coolant, power steering, brake fluid? What's your air filter and fuel filter change interval? How many sets of brake pads have you gone through? Replaced any rear brake hardware yet?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious. :)

For code 5 of the 4WD light, try to swap the transfer motor relay with another one of the same color to see if the codes go away. If they do, it's a faulty relay and you should replace it with a new relay.

I apologize for the delay...............I am trying to get the answers to your questions ......however on an interesting note ..............since I did the diagnostic.............now the regular 2 green lights come on............then the 4WD warning will come on sometime later...................then back to the greenies........or vice versa..............interesting.................I am still goint to look at changing out the relay.........since I am in NC .............it may switch into the 4WD light when I am going up a grade.................I have gooten used to not paying it attention.......now I need I will see if there is any pattern to the changing...............almost tempted to go through the diagnostic again..................when it is on the greenies to see what it shows

Sorry about the delay but the tech that works on the vehicle was on vacation.

1.Have you kept up with maintenance of other lubricants - transmission, differentials, transfer case, engine coolant, power steering, brake fluid?
Yes

What's your air filter and fuel filter change interval?
Basically he changes the air filter when it appears dirty
Fuel Filter may have been changed a couple of time during the vehicles service but not at any set intervals.

How many sets of brake pads have you gone through?
Living in the mountains of NC it took a while to get pads that we liked............ceremics didn't...............we finally got some at Believe it or not 'Advance Automotive"....that last almost a year.

Replaced any rear brake hardware yet?
No rear hardware replaced yet but did have to replace the rear sway bar as it broke in half............

As far as the 4wd light and the greenies............they are still alternating periodically althogh when it is in greenie, it seems to go to the 4wd light when it is going up a grade.................this may mean something.
