I'm new to the site, so a little personal info up front. I recently commandeered my wife's '05 Exterra 4.0L 6 speed manual 4x4. We got it several years ago with the idea that a vehicle with a manual transmission would fare better (she would not totally trash it) than her previous automatic equipped cars. Wrong! The synchronizers for 2nd and 3rd are all but completely missing and it does not shift somewhat easily until the transmission is good and warm. So now it's mine and she is not allowed the keys any longer. I absolutely love it in the snow and ice, hands down the most capable vehicle I've ever owned for inclement weather. But it's not the topic of discussion, for right now anyway.

I recently purchased a 1990 Hardbody 4x4 for $500. The body has what I would consider average rust, perhaps above average considering it's 32 years old. The interior is good and intact. The frame has two areas in need of boxing, same area on each side, but fairly easily to access. The plan is to get my 13 year old son involved in working on it to have ready for him to drive when he turns 14. The 4 cyl. engine sounds great. Very responsive and solid with 168K miles. 5 speed manual seems to shift with little effort even sitting still at idle. I have not driven it due to a busted suspension component on the front right lower control arm. I have no idea what it is called, but I believe I ran across the rubber bushings that go on it and they were referenced as "lower control arm strut bushings." I have not been able to find this part anywhere, but I think I can make one if I have to. It's connected to the rear of the lower control arm via 2 bolts and runs back to a frame mount with rubber isolators, washers and a nut. Does anyone have a part number, correct name or resource for this component?

Thank you up front for any assistance and I'm looking forward to working on this with my son as his first vehicle. (Kinda hoping he'd rather have something else so I can keep it as my own!)
