4th gen 5 speed transmission rebuild

Since owning my Maxima I have become much more mechanically capable but I still think a full transmission rebuild is out of my league. The last time I took my car somewhere other than Nissan they just messed it up more and didn’t fix the problem. So does anyone have a general idea how much a transmission rebuild is going to run me? I'm thinking $12 0r $1300 sounds pretty fair. What do you guys think?
