I do mostly city stop and go driving. I have the 4AT transmission and usualy leave O/D on, however my top speed 80% of the time is about 45 MPH and I've noticed that my RPM rarely gets over 1800 while cruising. I have about 1500 miles on the car so far and up to this point my MPG has been horrible. I'm averaging about 21 to 24MPG. Would running with O/D off help this? I've checked tire pressure, etc etc. Low fuel light comes on with about 230 - 260 miles on a tank. Thanks!

Others here know better than me... But on my previous Sentra GXE with 4AT I only bothered turning O/D off when climbing steep hills. Otherwise I'd leave it alone.

I love my V (SL w/CVT) but I'm only averaging 30MPG mixed driving.

I do almost all city driving as well and I'm averaging 22-23 MPG with the CVT. I wish I knew how to get better gas mileage....

Driving conservatively will increase your gas mileage, unless your car has an independent problem.

I have 4at. none CVT. and when i first had the car i got about 330 miles on a full tank. now that i have 6.500 I seem to be getting less. about 21-24 gallons, I NEVER EVER have made it to 369 gallons, which is the minimum in city driving. So is there something wrong with the car?

I have a 4AT and do city/hwy driving. I leave the OD on most of the time and I get 33-35 MPG about every week. I only turn it off when I am really trying to get out in traffic and need the extra pick-up.

At 1500 miles, you are still not at the optimal MPG break in point but you should be getting better than 21-24. Have you considered your driving style or route? Lots of stoplights will drag it down as will fast take offs. I have noticed that most drivers take off way too fast (gun it at the green light) and this is a very big gas waster. I read that you should try to pretend there is an egg under the pedal, and as lame as that sounds, I have started doing that only to see 90% of the cars wizz past me. And then sit there as I roll by when the light has turned green.

Also, I live in VA as well but down in tidewater where it is FLAT. I know Richmond is hilly, so this may be something that may be affecting your MPG.

Turning off O/D would hurt your gas mileage, even at non-highway speeds. At 40mph if you turn off O/D you will see your rpm's jump up. Those rpm's are extra gas consumption.
