Im close to hit 48k(kilometers not miles) and i made an appointment for oil change and tire rotation at the dealer, they say i'm supposed to be doing 48k maintenance or what they call "summer maintenance". It would contain all hoses , fluids, drive belts changed...replacing this and that...its like redoing entire car! Has anyone done this maintenance before? It wouldn't void my warranty if i pass on that ,would it?? I can't about the dealer i go to, the service is great there but i understand they need to make money somehow but..just to be safe.

They are telling you to do a Maintenance Package 3, which is lots of checks and little work; in Ottawa $210 plus taxes. A lot of the checks you can do yourself if you are a little knowledgeable. You are right -- they need to make their money. But $200 for a visual inspection is a bit much imo:

Inspect Air Filter*(S2)Battery fluid level Brake linings, drums, pads, discs*(S1)**Clutch and hydraulic fluid levels* Condition of exhaust system and mountings Coolant fluid level and radiator hoses Cooling fluid density*(S5)Dust covers & drive shaft boots Fluid levels and condition of brake lines & hoses Fuel lines, connections, fuel tank vapour vent, system hoses, fuel tank bands* and fuel tank cap gasket High tension wires Horn, wipers and all exterior lights Lubricate locks, latches and hinges Power steering fluid level Steering components Suspension components**Tire condition and pressure

AdjustDrive belts and inspect condition

ReplaceEngine oil and oil filter

RotateTires

PLUSInspect distributor cap & rotorInspect transmission fluids (except CVT)

Road test vehicle.

Supplement

If applicable, replace PCV valve/filter [read: if they can get away with it]If vehicle is equipped with a Cabin Air filter, replacement is recommended at 12 months/24,000 km (obtain estimate from service)

Replace fuel filter[if they can get away with it]

Replace coolant[again, if they can]

I recently had the 60k mile (96k km) service done at my dealer, and even they only agreed with the service manual to inspect belts and hoses and not replace them unless they needed it. None did.

Wait, wait...

The MR18 has a distributor? What? Isn't it coil-on-plug?

Could be. I erased the "*if needed" that I knew wasn't needed but wasn't sure about this.

$200. for a bunch of checks; $39.95 at Midas for a general inspection and LOF, fuel stuff and high tension wires inspection and adjustment of drive belts probably not included.

The service department at the dealership has to make their money, yes, but that's a heck of a difference in price!

I guess the question is . . . who do you trust more: Midas or dealership?

And the second question is . . . do you know an independent mechanic that youc an trust to do a good job without gouging you?

yeah, i'd rather do all check ups myself and save cash. im just doing oil changes at the dealer to have proof of something done at their place when something goes wrong with a car and it is not a dealer i bought my car from cause they SUCK donkey ***!!this dealer is always very helpful not pushy ..they just have one of the best service guys out there. i could as well do it at midas and keep the receipts or just do it myself if i wasn't so lazy as i've done so with my first car mazda mx3 which has lasted me up to 360k(km)and still running!!(not used so often anymore tho) anyway...thnx a bunch for responses!cheers.
