Order of operations. Parentheticals first, then left to right.

48/2(9+3) =
48/2(12)=
24(12)=
288

Damnit, for it to be 2 it would have to read 48/(2(9+3))

The question read 48/2*12

theres no such thing as dividing, there is only multiplying by a reciprocal, you're using imaginary algebraic operators, y0.

I had 20 apples and I multiplied them by a reciprocal into groups of 2.

DAMN STRAIGHT YOU DID!

the division symbol was only invented to help stupid people do algebra who dont understand fractions.

It's been forever since I've actually had to do any math like this, but following PEMDAS wouldn't you need to MULTIPLY before you DIVIDE (hence the peMDas)?

Nope, multiply and divide orders are determined by reading left to right:

Ahh, I stand corrected. I forgot that the multiply and divide functions were "equals" when it came to the order of how to do them.

How is this even an argument/poll?

Pick up a basic algebra textbook and read about the order of operations.

its 288 by the way

I just took a basic pre-college level math course, yes I'm 27, yes I admit that I may not be "educated" but I will beat you in a chicken wing eating contest.

And I participate in this: http://projecteuler.net/

Nope, it was invented for (p0rn).

Keeping on topic, notice the parenthesis suggesting that p0rn be calculated first BEFORE other items.
