I would say more like 2-3k if its just the goodies. Cuz the stock motor can make 250hp with only a tuning of the turbo but you can buy a gt3037s for 2,500 and make 400 with the basic bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, pulleys, turbo timer). My friend has a 93 coupe that makes 415hp at the flywheel with that turbo. But make sure that you invest so of that money into a good clutch and flywheel cuz he didnt and went though 2 clutchs and a flywheel.

ok, so your going to use a gt3037 with stock fuel injectors, stock computer management, stock fuel pump, stock clutch, stock mani, stock intercooler, stock piping, stock exhaust?? NOT GONNA HAPPEN< BUT NICE TRY...

i like how you added turbo timer in there also...considering that has NOTHING to do with hp or any times in any way or form....

u will NOT get 400hp for 2-3k...if you really think so, post some links to sites, and this magical setup you suggest running, i'd love to hear it....

thanks.

If you get 400 hp on stock internals it won't last for a long time, because you'll blow the motor eventually.

http://www.enjukuracing.com has a kit for $2800 and produces 393HP. You will need some upgraded gaskets/injectors/fuel pump/ front mount Intercooler. I am guessing around $4k you can reach 400HP safely. Lots of work and lots of money. Good luck to ya though, I know I wished I had the time and money for that kit!

Sorry thats not going to happen if you only have $1200! The intercooler itself is at least $850 but that can easily go up depending on how much hp you want it to be capable of. You are looking at least at $2500 for what you want

Maybe 'after' you 'get it done' then you'll have a different opinion on it....How many 400 HP SR20det's have you ACTUALLY built? for 1, the SAFC is not efficient enough to control a 400whp car...You would be much better off investing money in one of the most important aspects of the car...Engine Management. Preferebly a TEC, Haltech or Power FC (all over $1000 additional)

An SAFC would be fine but I wouldn't get it. If I were to go piggy-back, I'd get an electronic boost controller (any) and an EXEDE.

yea, it would be 'fine'....but it wouldnt be efficient, and you would not be able to maximize the output of the turbo setup...most people dont want 'fine' and want something 'good'....great, put in a big turbo, all those mods, and drive around with a stock 7500 rev limiter and speed limiter!!! talk about wasting your money::sigh::...

find out how many stock internal 400hp sr20det's running stock computers with just afc's and then tell me how many have blown up....everyone wants the cheapest route, then ends up rebuilding due to their ''solidheadedness', and trying to cut corners...the Majority of the poeple who did 400hp setups, blew up the first time....their thinking was along the same pattern i see in this thread...just be ready.

can a JWT ecu and Z32 mafs be enough to handle this setup?

you can run a jwt to 400whp....but 550 injectors max at about 425-450...and the JWT 72lb injector setup is either not out, or has problems....im not a fan of JWT.

But the Z32 mafs is something else to add to that magical 3000 dollar setup.

Most people can't tune a SAFC, that's its biggest problem. Trust me, you'd see 10x as many blown engines on cars if everyone could afford standalones. The sheer number of properly tuned (with safc's and other piggy back devices), high hp cars disproves your theory on them not being efficient enough to support 400whp. Just look to the DSM, Honda, Supra, and WRX community to name a few. I think it's over hyped and costs too much and I would never buy one...but to say it can't support 400whp is rediculous.

Notice this warning on their webpage:Quote »Due to the complexity of this product, A'PEX recommends having the S-AFC and other A'PEX electronics installed and tuned by authorized A'PEX Power Excel Shops.[/quote]So let me ask you, can you find me a blown 400whp SR20DET that was tuned by an authorized A'PEX shop on a dyno while operating under their tune?

the SAFC cannot adjust ignition timing right? I woud think the stock ignition timing map would not be good for upgraded turbo, and too advanced under high boost

How many authorized apexi tuners are their in the US? 5? ....

It can "support" 400hp.....its inefficient, and will not really allow u to get the most out of your setup....whats the 550's max out at?? 450hp if your lucky? so you have to stepup to 720's...now how efficient is the afc really with 720 injectors? its the limit basically..running anything at the limit is not the safest or best bet...

there are many more 400+ dsm's honda and supras running standalone's than just afc's...yes i use an afc, and yes, we have 2 gsx's running 11's on afc's....is it maximizing the efficiency of their setups, no not at all...

fine, run your 400hp sr20det with an afc...and see what performance you get, and what times you will run...THEN get a standalone, have that tuned for the exact same setup, and tell me your going to have the same results? no not at all....

does afc allow u to move your rev limiter? move your speed limiter?

you have a 400hp sr20det with an afc....your going to hit speed cut before you even cross the 1/4 mile line....

Of course apexi recommends tuning the afc by an authorized dealer, thats business, they would rather push that towards authorized tuners...

thats the problem with the Power FC if you dont live in cali, your going to have a hard time having it tuned...

im not saying that the afc is a bad unit, but i would not recommend it for building a 400+whp car, there are much much better options out there, and options that give you less chance of having a problem.

the new afc does have benefits over the old, but its still no where near the features and results youll get with a standalone.

You keep making references to funcions the AFC was never meant to do. There are other piggyback electronics that can handle those problems (the speed limiter). Also, don't plan on an SR20 lasting too long revving past 7500rpm unless you plan on replacing the rockers...in which case you'll also have to replace the cams. With those mods, you'd be a fool to not go standalone.

Please don't confuse what I was saying though. I know a standalone is 'better' for all out tuning...and I would never buy an SAFC, I've already said that (hey, I'm on your side, I don't like em). They cost way too much and do far too little. All I am saying is that 400whp is very realistic on an SAFC...ideal for you and me; no...possible; of course.

Relax...

Jesse, I'm sorry I forgot I didnt list the Z32 MAFs,Z32 fuel pump, ACT clutch, braided hoses, radiator bla bla bla bla...I would think people here have a little more brain than what you obviously seem to think. This is my first 400 SR20det 240 I'm gonna build and it wont be the last, when I'm done with it I will post the complete list of mods, the pictures of the car,the dyno sheets and the timeslips, then hopefully instead of jumping all over my post like a hungry voltor, you will just chill out and understand I only meant to list vaguely the major parts that the MOTOR will need to roughly make 390-400hp.Take care and see you around, Mario

k, sorry for sounding angry : )

post your reciepts also ; )

all im saying is all those parts are part of making a 400hp car...and they do add to cost...so when asked how much it will cost for a newby to get to the 400hp level, and someone says 3k, it gets me upset, cause its not going to happen, and i dont like giving people new to the motor a false sense, then they get into something they really werent ready for......Yes if you have experience with the sr20det, and connects on parts, and can do your own labor, its possible...but for a newby, its buying a turbo kit for 400hp, which usually cost around 4-5k, if you know what im saying...(ie, enjuku, ctc, tomei, etc)

I believe an S-AFC can support 400 horses.
