So my wife and I are looking for a new smaller/luxury SUV. We have narrowed it down to the Toureg, MDX, & FX35.

Went to go and look at them all last night.

1st) Toureg--Nice rig but once you start adding up the options including the V8 (which costs ~$8k more than the V6) the price jumps up to way higher than a Volks should ever cost. However with the V6 (wife is driving so performance is less of an issue) it gets more reasonable. Fit and finish appears excellent.

2nd) FX35--Wife was luke warm on some of the interior items including the seat controls and aluminum detail but performance wise this thing appears to be pretty incredible. It may take me a while to grow into the styling while it is very unique I am not the type to want a lot of attention, and I feel that this may draw more than I desire.

The infinti salesperson goes on to tell me that 7 out of 10 Touregs have been repurchased by Volkswagen due to electrical problem. I find this very hard to believe. Then he goes on to say that in a year their will be a chip and exhaust combination available through the dealer that will boost the horsepower for the FX35 to 400hp. He said that this dealer installed kit will cost approx $2k. This sounds even more unbelievable to me to be able to extract that much horsepower with out any type of forced induction. My biggest hurdle in purchasing a car is always just tyring to filter the sales guys BS. After this I stopped looking for the evening because I got worn out talking with sales guys and just found the things I was being told too difficult to swallow without further research.

Have you guys heard anything like this, or was I just being fed what he thought I would need to purchase the car??

400....ROFL....not unless its twin turbo, or Intercooled supercharger...I hate the BS of some salesmen

maybe from the FX45....with all bolt-ons (intake, intake manifold, light weight pulleys, headers, exhausts)

He may be right on Touareg electrical problems- they have been high, while Infinit offers one of the very few luxury SUVS with low problems.

The only way to get a FX35 up to 400 hp is with a with turbo at higher boost. Are you sure he wasnt referring to the FX45 (stock 315hp V8, same engine as 340hp Q45, boltons might yield extra power)?

As you like power, ou sound more like a shopper for a FX45 rather than FX35 anyway.

Fred..:)

He said that the FX45 was going to get an increase too. He said that the FX35 is based on the Skyline and with turbos that car gets over 615 hp, so the 400 hp would be easily achieved with just a chip and exhaust. It kills me when these guys say something that is not true, or think that you are stupid just to get a sale.

I actually think that the V6 to V8 performance differences aren't enough to justify the price difference. Since I have no experience I could be wrong though...

When your dealing with someone like that just ask to see the sales manager to inquire about it and also ask the salesman to show you the published information on it. As a matter of fact be alert to what they are telling you, Any time they add some bonus to the car in their attmpt to get you to buy it ask for published info on each evolving benifit of the car. I too get sickened by pressuring sales men, IMO most of them are scum, finding an honest, none pressure salesman is difficult.

If they could get the chip and exhaust for the FX35 up to 400hp, then they could easily do the same for the G35 and I am quite certain that there is nothing out there for the G or coming out for the G like that anytime in the near future. Deffinetly a load of bullshi*t.

The Touareg is solely responsible for Porsche's initial quality rankings plummeting from top 3 to bottom 10 (Cayenne). While 7/10 is a wild exaggeration, quality is without question a concern.

The MDX is a wise choice. My mother has owned two. Excellent winter performers, low enough to the ground for comfort and handling but enough clearance for rough conditions. Excellent all wheel drive system. Its not exciting in any way at all, but it does drive and handle surprisingly well. It feels more like a midsize sedan than most SUVs. Lots of room inside, very user friendly (Acura's navigation system is quite clever), but parts of the interior are a bit cheap and could use better fit and finish. I'm not in love with it, but I really like it. Its like the smart kid in school who usually gets ignored.

Im biased toward the FX for performance, luxury, and style. All three of those, to me, make it a better value.
