Hello all, I'm new to the site and to Infiniti ownership. I've been a Nissan Altima man for nearly my whole driving career, but I just recently stepped up to a used 2005 Infiniti G35 sedan. I'm a little over 40,000 miles and the sticker that the dealer had for the next scheduled maintenance was 41,800. I just want to get an idea as to what I should be expecting to get done and what it should all run me before I go into the dealership and get bent over. Also, if I go to an Infiniti dealership, do I get a loaner or do I have to drop the car off or wait? Thanks.

should get a loaner...

I would make sure you just change your oils... if it is an auto change that too! I think everything else is a waste!

Thanks. Ok, so I guess I'll just go get an oil change done and have them check to make sure everything else is in order.

I have 43k on my 06 sedan and anything spent in maintenance is foolish in my book.

Keep your oils and fluids clean.... Check your air filter (up grade to a K&N so that you can clean it yourself) Thats about it... Later down the road you will do a set of plugs and that is at 80-100k miles

Just drive it like you stole it!

Welcome to NICO.

Quite a few things on the scheduled maintenance list can be done yourself.

Your level of mechanical inclination will determine what you do and what you have them do.

Mike:

I don't know how much you love your G but i love mine so much that this month, I am about to engage in serious maintenance of the G. My car has about 32k. This is the list of what i will be getting done. Netx year i am repaeating the same thing without the drive belts. Already I had my brakes and rear differential fluids changed. I also do this once a year.

1. PCV valve2. Spark plugs3. JWT Pop Charger4. All the drive belts5. Radiator fluids

I have a deal with my mechanic who will do all this for between $50 - $90 when i come with parts. He does my brakes for $50 too.

Welcome to NICO

As others have written, mostly everything can be done yourself.

Dirty cabin filter

Dirty Air Filter

Change your oil and oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, check all fluids, and rotate tires.I recently purchased wiper blade inserts from Infiniti parts for $7.50 and they showed me how to install them. Very easy.

If you don't mind blowing a few hundred dollars you can drop it off at the dealer.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah sorry about the username. I've been using it since high school and since I join so many forums and have a crap memory, I usually just default to this username.

I'm not the most mechanically inclined but I did do a few mods like installing the HID kit on both of my old Altimas. I've never really done much of the maintenance stuff since I'm scared to screw it up. I might look into it, but honestly, I think I'm going to wuss out and end up taking the car to the dealer.

I think it's easier to mess up on HIDs than it is an oil change or in-cabin air filter.

I think it's just a phobia really and probably has a little to do with being raised by my mother and never getting up under a car with old dad. But on a serious note, I can hook up home theater systems, computer networks, and do simple mods, but the thought of doing an oil change scares me for some reason. I always feel like I'm going to screw it up and end up causing serious damage to my engine. Maybe it's all that stuff crammed into that tiny space that makes it seem so daunting to me.

Homeschooled. Raised by mother.Computer/electronics/Math nerd.Still do basic maintenance on my vehicles.

I'm not trying to get you to do anything you don't want to, just trying to dispell your fears.

Oil Change

Engage parking brake.Chock rear tires if paranoid.Jack up front of car and utilize jackstands to prevent "Flat Mike Pancakes"

2-4 ramps can also be used in lieu of the 3 aforementioned steps.

Unscrew oil cap.Place catch pan below oil panUnbolt oil pan boltWatch dirty oil flow.Unscrew oil filterWatch oil get all over you hand (ha! ha! )

Ad a slight dab of new oil to new oil filter.Screw in new oil filter.Rebolt oil pan bolt.lower car (if not on 4 ramps)Fill oil.Check oil level.

DONE.

I'm changing my oil tomorrow morning. Its supposed to be a nice day here in NJ with temperatures 65 to 70. If you leave now you could make it and I'll show you how. Exit 9 on NJ TPKE

BTW regular gas is $3.11 for cash today. May be even cheaper tomorrow.
