I believe super hicas came on 91-94 SE's.

My 92 fastback had super hicas. 4 wheel steering sucks because when you make turns it doesnt allow you to lose traction, so therefore you wont be able to drift, well you could but it would be very hard. because the computer in super hicas automatically corrects your turns....

IMO Super hicas is really only good for cornering. And when I drove my car for the first time in the rain w/ crap tires, it was not good at all. super hicas + rain + bad tires = bad stuff. But now I have a hicas remover and good tires so everything is gravy... :)

Does anyone know where the HICAS computer is located? I'm removing HICAS by switching the rear suspension out for a non-HICAS and need to know where the comp is. Oh, by the way, it does suck. Ever drive a HICAS car in the snow? Don't.

#1, I don't consider it 4 wheel steering. It's more of an active rear toe. Last thing I read is that it only adjusts the rear toe by +/- 1 degree.

#2, Yes, it would work against drifting since it would toe-in the outside tire. It is meant to add stability. Drifting was not what they had in mind with this system.

#3, I'd blame your bad tires before I blame the Hicas for crappy grip in the rain. Frankly, you'll find any 240 on bad tires in the rain sucks.

#4, Just to clarify your first statement, Hicas was available on 91-93 Hatchbacks on SE models. Not all SE's had them. It was part of the performance package.

#5, This one is for sileighty_91. Any 240 in snow sucks. Like in rain, Hicas is the least of your concerns.

Agree with all your statements, C-Kwik...I swear that HICAS is the single most maligned component on this board. You would think it killed Jesus, the way people talk about it. Funny how Z32 and Skyline owners don't seem to be complaining about it too much...

Anyway, according to my FSM, the HICAS controller box is on the passenger's side of the vehicle. It is located behind the back-seat plastic trim panel. I.e. the panel with the armrest for the back seat passenger. You'll have to remove that panel to get at it. Good luck in, er, disabling your car's option. Hope it improves your snow driving techniques!

Thanks for the replies. I believe my toe might also be off on the rear end which would add to the weird feeling of the Hicas. If the rear tires are fighting each other it tends to have a strange feeling over bumps and such. I considered keeping Hicas but it will be easier when I do my SR swap in a couple of months to have it eliminated. (no need to find a SR Hicas pump)

It's better to actually determine the cause of your problems. Careful inspection of your tires will usually reveal any alignment problems. You may be looking at worn suspension components as well.

I've noticed that when the rear suspension is pretty worn, the HICAS has a tendency to feel like it's over-correcting, especially over big bumps. It's hard to explain but I know what you're talking about, my car does the same thing and it's long overdue for new struts/springs. In theory, if the steering wheel is straight, the HICAS shouldn't actuate at all (there's a sensor in the hub of the wheel) but I suspect a lot of loose play in the rear shocks makes the rams squirrely as well. Do you have old struts in the back?
