I am looking to Change my 95 240sx from 4-5 lug soon, and I ran into a problem. My car has ABS, and I would like to keep it, money is a little tight, and the Cheapest I could get new abs hubs to my door is $300 just for the 2 fronts. There are no used ABS hubs around me to be found.

Does anyone here know if I can buy used 5 lug hubs from a non abs car, remove the abs ring from my current 4 lug hubs, and transplant it onto the used set of non abs 5 lugs? It would save me a bit of cash....

I don't see why this would be an issue. I highly doubt they would make 2 completely different hubs for a car. I know when selling axles at work if the car doesn't have abs you can simply remove the reluctor wheel off of the cv. Is try and get some measurements though where the ring would be installed to.check compatibility

hmmm, I asked a shop and they told me:

You will not be able to fit the ring on a non-abs hubs since they are a larger diameter. If you purchase non-abs hubs, you would have to purchase ABS Knuckles. In turn that will eliminate the ABS function.

I just want to make sure before I go and waste money. How would non abs hubs be a larger diameter?

Usually the only difference with abs is the spindle will have o hole for the sensor and there will be extra room for the abs wheel. Look at this picture. It seems that like I said.. The wheel can easily be removed. id call frsport and see if there is a difference in the hub assembly from non abs to abs.

FR sports guy says he has done it, so I guess it works:

13:28:48 Alan: Yes you should be able to
13:29:04 Alan: However this advice is from personal experiences
13:29:17 Alan: It is not a gaurantee.
13:30:21 Visitor: I am sorry are you saying you did this personally and it worked?
13:31:17 Alan: Yes sir
13:32:12 Visitor: oh wow, ok , did you need a press to fit them on? or do they slide off?
13:33:38 Alan: They will take a little effort
13:34:12 Alan: I cannot vouch for the effectiveness on this though
13:34:41 Visitor: can I ask how long you have had you car set up like this?
13:35:03 Alan: I apologize I just have to make you aware that I am not 100% on this modification
13:35:14 Alan: I have done this on my previous car
13:35:35 Alan: It is just a ring that goes around the hub that sends signals for the ABS to work properly
13:36:28 Alan: I am just adding a disclaimer. I am not saying that this is the proper way to do this but I will try my best to assist you.
13:37:28 Visitor: right I wasnt sure if the non abs hub had a groove for the ring to fit.
13:38:23 Alan: From what I recall, there shouldn't be a groove
13:38:38 Alan: the ring would slip over the circumference of the base of the hub
13:39:04 Visitor: ok, thanks man, I appreciate it
13:39:13 Alan: Of course no problem
13:39:17 Alan: Good luck
13:39:21 Alan: Have a good day.

Thanks for the suggestion compactfean! !
