I'm having my steering wheel professionally re-covered in perforated leather (redline goods http://www.redlinegoods.com/Z32MTshiftboot.php). The steering wheel and airbag need to be removed. I could only find ONE thread on the subject and it indicated that you need a special "security bit" to remove the airbag. Is this one of those torx cap screws with a round stud in the middle - like you sometimes see in public toilets? : - )

Anybody know what size/type these special screws are?

Have you checked the OSM for that detail?
Also, I'd assume that a Nissan dealer could clue you in to that tool, and probably sell one to you as well...and if not possibly point you in the right direction.

The on-line OSM is for pre-airbag cars - but that's a good suggestion. I'll try to find one.

You're right, I forgot about that airbag detail and the OSM.
I think that a dealer should also be able to get you fixed up, if a bit too expensively, but in this case I think you'll agree it's a serious enough deal to get the right tool and do it all safely.
Another thought I had just now is those specialty tool shops, we have several around here, maybe they have one/know of where to get them?
Auto repair shops as well, if just for the info of where they get the tool/deal with the situation.

The tool you need is called tamper proof torx bits. Not sure the exact size, but I'll guess around a t30.
Sample of tool here:

Thanks. found it. It's a tamper proof t50 to get the airbag assembly off. One bolt on each side of the wheel.
