i want to run my (4) components speakers off a seperate amp, and was wondering if i could use a 2 channel amp?... im assuming by doing so, the impedence will be 2 ohms instead of 4 ohms.... but my speakers are 4 ohms... would this cause a big problem?... would it be best to get a 4 channel amp instead?

Rex and/or PQM... im counting on you! thanks

You can. You have to (somewhere) connect the 2 negatives and the 2 positives to the amp for one channel say for the left side and then do the same for the right. Basically the two positives for the left speakers will go to the left channel positive terminal on the amp and the two negatives for the left speakers will go to the left channel negative terminal on the amp. This goes for the right side as well.

This means that you will be running the amplifier at 2 ohms per channel. That is completely fine. The problem is this... you lose your front/rear fade ability. You cannot independently adjust the sound level of the front or rear. You can only adjust both at the same time. If you get a 4 channel, you gain the ability to set the speaker levels and use your fader.

Thanks for the info Simmsledi understand how to hook it up, but would it damage the speakers because they have a 4 ohm impedence and the amp would be at 2 ohms? or does this not matter?

most of the amps im seeing withing my price range are 2 channel, the 4 channel amps tend to be higher. i guess using a 4 channel amp would make matters easier.

Hey Rexit sure sounds like he does! but usually you or PQM answer all my questions... thanks though!

Sorry, this quesiton got overlooked ...

Speakers have an ohm value, and running an amp at a lower value (by utself) can't damage the speakers. Lower ohms, can damage amps from overheating, but 2 isn't generally considered "real low".

It's PMQ. Yeah, Simmsled is really good in this section too, hence why he's the mod, but he's usually a little busier then Rex and I.

Nope, the speakers will still each have a 4Ohm load, but the overall resistance will be 2 ohms.

The only real benefit is what Simsled mentioned about the front/rear fader control.
