Ive been looking around to find some info on a small amount of boost. I want to put a kit together to run about 4 psi. Would i need an intercooler for such a small psi or is that more of an extra hp thing at that point? What would someone reccomend for putting together a kit? I searched everywhere and couldnt find a good answer...Right now i have a ka24e auto with basic mods...(injen intake, ngk plugs/wires custom 2.5" catback) the trans was taken of a junked 240 with only 79,000 miles and the engine will be rebuilt next. Any help would be appreciated

if you use a nice sized turbo and keep below 5psi you could get away with not running a IC but the risk goes up when you go cheap

The cost of a side mount and a T25, is so cheap you should have no reason not to run a IC.

And also 4 psi is not really that realistic. Get a T25, side mount IC. Run 7 PSI on it. If you plan on using Auto transmission get a transmission cooler, which are dirt cheap too, and since your not going for that much power you can even get away with a RPFR/FMU stock timing on the SOHC and 93oct gas.

A whole setup like that including the Mani will cost you under grand and create a fun low end powered car, and pretty reliably.

A SMIC cost you $35ish A fmic used is maybe 75 which if you ever upgrade your already set. Buy a new one for $130 off ebay. Run 7/8psi retard timing 2 degrees and run safc and fuel pump. injectors if you can get them

Since we're posting about the optimum in cheap and reliable...with a focus on cheap. The Fuel pump should be changed for sure, the S13 pump sucks. This will enable you to run a RRFPR or FMU like S13FX already suggested. Since the 8:1 FMU will make you run a tad rich on boost you can probably fore-go the intercooler for now. The KA24E run a really low compression, so there's no need to retard the timing if you do keep it under 7 psi. But a slight retard can be done easily and will result in a far safer boosted car.

So a bottom mount SSAC man, T25, SR downpipe to a cat-back exhaust should take care of the hot side, then just get creative with the intake pipe for a no intercooler setup. Really east with some j-bend and some 2.5 silicone couplers from eBay.

All in all this can be done easily for under $1000.

Best of luck and happy boosting. Do keep us updated on this project.
