Hey, I'm wondering about putting 2, 4 point harnesses in my car (95 S14) that will be driven throughout the summer, and occasionally taken to the track, Auto x practice, and occasionally the drag strip, as much as possible. I have broken it down to a mental list,

I want them because:

-Better restraint at the track-I figure they should hold me in well with the S14 seatsAnd yeah thats the only real reason for them..

I am concerned to buy them because:

-Passenger Safety, worried the passenger will not wear it tight enough, causing bodily harm in an accident-Nuisance (sp?) of not having a backseat anymore, I know it's useless, but my girlfriends sister fits back there in case she needs to come with us somewhere-Back seat passenger could sit between belts (mounted the the back seat seatbelt bolts) but again, I am concerned about passenger safety-Also concerned mounting them to the back seatbelt bolts would be too low, I've seen it done, but still.-Nuisance of wearing these belts everyday-Dont know if they would rub my neck being put under the headrest-Not being able to reach the dash

My no's outdo my yes's, but my yes's are reasons I really want them.

I also considered only getting one belt, for myself, Function over Form, but I would still like the asthetics of having two, as as that sounds.

Dont know if this helps but I had a 4x4 truck that I took out for some hardcore mudding/abuse and the harness I had in it was great for keeping me in place I was able to focus on shifting steering etc. but street driving you definetly want to keep the stock seat belts easier and way more comfortable a harness is made to limit your movement to arms only maybe you need that lol! put the drivers set in and put them on the way they were meant to be worn and you will see what I mean no movement at all

yeah I'm so stuck on this, I was thinking about putting just one in for the fact of my own purpose, maybe I could leave the stockers on there and throw the 4 point to the side until it is needed, but I'd like both for the purpose of symmetry.

Anything this side for a 5 point is useless and IMO unsafe.

A front end collison with just a 4 point could lead to crushed inards, broken ribs, etc etc as they don't support you around the pelvis, like a traditional lap belt, or a 5 point (submarine) belt.

With that said, a 5 point for a track day wouldn't be a bad idea, but never for street driving.

Having been in a car with those (well similar style) harnesses, I can say they offer better than stock support, but limited at that. Nothing like a real in car harness.

To me they are for people with exotics and similar who want the look more than the function.....

My s13 has sparco seats and a 6 point harness and I wear them all the time. Stock belts are still installed because its the law here but i never wear it. Feels fine. My seat is solid mounted in a fixed possition and the harness makes me feel strapped in. I personally like it over stock.Peter

I had a question about harnesses so I figured I could ask it here, does anyone know if they is a law against useing them in street cars here in Florida? and what if the stock ones were taken out?
