Hi folks, here's the story:

My roommate has a 2001 (i think) Frontier with a 4-banger in it. KA24DE, Correct? Anyway, we replaced the O2 sensors on it last weekend and I noticed what appeared to be small, hairline cracks in the exhaust manifold. The only thing that made me think they were cracks, was because they had black buildup, kinda like soot, around them. Here are my questions:

1) How bad a situation is this? i.e. should he replace/repair asap? 2) Would an exhaust manifold from any KA24DE fit correctly?

Any advice you guys have would be appreciated.

Thanks,

C

I don't know about the cracks, but I don't think any mani from a ka24de would fit because the location of the downpipes may be different on diff cars since they should have slightly diff clearances.

Another way to cover up the cracks/protect the mani is to use heat wrap, I think. I know ppl use them to prevent cracking, but i don't know about if they are already cracked.

You probably want to replace the mani in the near future since once it starts cracking, it only gets worse faster (like how you get cracks on a windshield I guess).

OOOO, that gives me an idea. S13 Charlie, one way to check for visual exhaust leakage is to run a sea foam treatment (do a search for sea foam treatment on nico) and see if gas is seeping thru the manifold. I think other ppl like to use a tiny bit of soap.

Hmm, I haven't been in my roommate's truck in a while, but I don't think there's any leakage.. Would it be pretty obvious? i.e. loud or just not sounding right? Thanks guys,

C
