Hi I am new to the forum and new to the 4.5 engine even though i have built many engines . first i would like to know is the a big differance betwen early 4.5 and the latter ones . what do you think it will take to put one of these light weight gems in my jet boat and get it running . I have seen a twin turbo in a boat on youtub and this engine screams . how much bost can the stock engine take and how much power can be had

GM small block crate engine will produce tons more power for little money with easier upgrade path from aftermarket.

The VH45DE found in the 90-96 Q45 is more robust, and should be more capable of handling some boost if you want to throw some at it. Downsides - The 90-93 have timing chain guide issues, but it's curable by installing the updated guides. The 96 came without VVT, and all have fuel injector failure issues if ethanol laced fuel is used.

The VK45DE found in the 02-05 Q45 and the M45 has more horsepower out of the gate, but won't do much more without beefing it up substantially.

If you do this, please take lots of pictures and keep us posted!

Look at NisPro's adaptation of the VH45DE.

Posted in VH/VK and I think in Infiniti General by me. The latter is now in General Chat some where. Good luck!
