Rule of thumb is that you don't put a harness in until you have a rollcage. If the car goes over, the harness will hold you upright while the roof caves in without a cage, guaranteeing a tragedy.

So you dont wear seatbelts either??? cuz they keep u upright too!!!!!!

I do recomend getting a roll bar tho. 270bux for Autopower is pretty nicehttp://www.ioportracing.com/Me...AP670get the Shoulder harness bar option for 50bux and you got your problems solved

OR you could go with Sparco or Recaro (dont remember whitch) Harness bar. to attach your harness.

Good luck.

they do keep you upright, but in the event that we dont want to happen, you CAN move to the side

Educate yourself. A lap and shoulder belt are in no way equivalent to a 4 or 5 point harness, otherwise the only thing racers like you would need is the factory original.Perhaps "rollcage" was too strong a word. I should have used "decent rollbar".

If you are stopped!!!!This is what happens in real lifeyou're going at 60MPH, some1 Tbones you in the side (or whatever else to make you roll over) As you roll from side to side, you HAVE NO CHANCE IN HELL to move out to the side!so please, dont tell me that 4point harness is bad for you.

Going back to original post.I would recomend the 3in version of a 4 point harness if you can get it. Its a little more expensive tho.If you are planning on racing on the track, most harnesses have 2 year lifespan, so take that into consideration. Most of can be had for about 100bux or so. Just make sure to avoid cheap ones like WeaponR or APC ect.Sparco, Recaro, even Autopower make seatbelts, so go with those.

harnesses are not good for the street.

in your little 'situation' your lap belt will stop your lower body from moving, while the shoulder belt will give some to disperse some energy.

racing harnesses are made for a totally differnt reason. the car they are in is supposed to be reinforced for racing, roll bar, and usually side impact beams, and they are designed to be used with a really good seat so that in the event of an accident, the driver cannot move or be thrown around in the cabin.

if you put a harness in your street car, especially one without a cage, leave your stock belts and use them when you're driving on the street.

you misunderstood my post, i did not mean you can jump to the side. i meant that your body can hinge at the hips moreso than in a full harness.

Nothing on this thread really helped me, I plan on running a removable 4 point harness on stock s13 seats. The seats seem racing inspired but the hole for the harness seems a bit small like it would be tight on the neck. Is anyone running a harness on the stock s13 seats? I'd really like to see a pic of someone wearing the harness in the s13 seat.

For the Drivers Schools I am associated with we only allow a factory 3 point or a 5/6 point harness.

The 4 point in a frontal impact will allow you to slide out from under the harness--no sub strap as there is with a 5/6 point. We feel the factory 3 point is actually safer than a 4 point.

Two of my fellow organizers went to the SCCA natioanl convention last year--where there was a symposium on safety. the concensus of all the big wigs in safety--go with a 6 point or nothing.

Here is part of the problem --without a roll bar or roll cage you do not have a good attachment for the shoulder straps. Either the angle is poor ( I think it should be no more than 45 degrees or so--cannot remember) --OR you have long straps going to the back--that will STRETCH way too fay in a frontal impact.

Put in a roll bar --PAD the roll bar, and then go with a 5/6 point harness.

I've also heard that the problem with a 4 point isn't that you will slide out, it's that depending, depending on the crash, the harness can pull up and in and crush some vital organs or ribs. The 5th point between your legs stops that from happening.

Ok, all this safety information is great and all, but its not what I'm looking for. I plan on using a harness like once a week to hold me in place when I go drfting out in a parking lot or whatever. All I want to know is about running two 2 inch harness straps through the stock seat hole by the neck and how it fits.

okay ignoring the safty issues I'd go with a 4 point unless you want the 5th belt holding the family jewels

The problem is the information you're choosing to ignore could save you serious injury or possibly your life if something happens and you're to roll over while out drifting around once a week.

Get it?
