4.3 VORTEC IN 240SX

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I like it!!!!

I've been toying with the idea of a 231 c.i. Buick V6 (Grand National) in a coupe...

The 4.8 or 5.3 would be better choices in my opinion. Also cheap.

Did A LOT of pondering on this one a couple of years ago. Decided against it in favor of the LSx due to the aftermarket.

Would be a kick a$$ swap.

Sure it could be done, there are quite a few ford and chevy small blocks running around in 240's already. A 4.3L is nothing special - just a 5.7L/350 with 2 cylinders missing. I'm not just being sarcastic either - really, it is... Same engine minus 2 cylinders. From a cost standpoint, I would think you would be better off just going with a full smallblock. But, hey - all ideas are welcomed in this section

THE 4.8 OR THE 5.3 ARE ALL ALUMINUM, THEY WOULD PROBABLY BE THE BEST CHOICE, THE 4.8 PUTS DOWN 275HP THE 5.3 PUTS DOWN 300HP.

I could be wrong but nearly all the truck/SUV motors have iron blocks.

yeah from what i know the chevy truck blocks are all iron, but i have heard of a alluminum v6 that i forget what it came in. but that would be nice, i think with v6, you could get the engine back further and maybe lower. you'll have to clear the tunnel a bit more i'm assuming though.

I think the main point is price, but I'd never be able to leave it NA. Flip the manifolds and run a set of twins and the 4.3 becomes a very potent motor. Not THAT heavy and the V6 leaves room for plumbing turbo's.

The I5 from a TrailBlazer is an excellent motor. It got best motor for like 4 years running, all aluminum dohc with alot of cubes for a inline.

I have no idea what the availability is though.

Just a correction the Trailblazer never had an I5. It comes with an I6 rated at 291 horse, you can also get it with the 5.3 litre rated at 297 horse, or the 6.0 litre LS2 rated at 397. The I5 was used in the Canyon/Colorado.

The inline 6 in a nice engine, but fairly large. Longer then a LSX engine. I have a LS6 in my 240SX and im crammed inthere as it is.

My bad, thanks for the correction though. The I5 is a win win. Fairly big and fairly light.

Trailblazer inline 6 sounds like a good swap, Most of the heigth of the motor is from the crossover intake and the front diff so going custom on those items you may be able to fit the motor under the hood.

Yeah its not possible, they are amazing engines, but its too long. you would have to notch the radiator core and relocate the radiator. Its a 4.2 Litre inline motor almost twich the size of the KA inline 4. its atleast 1.5 times the length. The RB26 is tight thats about the largest inline motor that will fit.

The RB is far from tight IMO. With a slim elec fan or front mounted puller fans I'm quite sure the 4.2 would fit.

Someone go dig up how much the drivetrain weighs.

the only 5.7(350) that was all aluminum was the LS1. but they did have all aluminum 5.3. that was tehn they came out with that IMAX package. which i think was a flop because i never heard too much about them and never saw one.

The 5.7 Litre LS block is a 347 CI motor. I just measured my LS6 swapped 240SX which is very tight, and my friends trailblazer block (as best as possible). The block on the 4.2 is longer then a LSX block by approx 4 inches. I have my LS6 mounted as close to the firewall as it was possible, and i have about 3 inchs of space before I touch the radiator. It would be in awesome swap in an S10, bot not possible with out modifing the the firewall on a 240. I dunno if the colorado swap will work... Depends if its a rear or front sump engine.

As far as a 5.3 there is no reason to use one. All small black of this generation are the same size, the internal bore is different. You would be best off using a LS1, LS6, or LS2 or as of next year the new 6.3 litre LS3
