WOW!I strongly believe 4.083 final drive is a menadory modification for Y33 Q45!I make a car street worhty again plus real road warrior Accel is very good, mid range accel is a killer. Overall it is perfect gear ratio for Y33!For 35$ (parts) and ~2.5-3 hrs of work ....I cannot beat this!First drive - no vibes, no noises, vry smooth and quiet! No more 2-3 gear shif delay (I mean it ) just a normal upshift like any other car/truck I've driven!Speedo off - not big deal!I am simply impressed with transformation!Cheers!

I can't get my yellow box to work above 25mph....speedo goes dead to "zero" after 25 mph.

Sounds just like MDT (Paratransit onbooard computer) problem we had. Speedo would go up to 27MPH and then drop down to zero!I didn't work on MDT but we had to call "the company" and replace all units with updated ones!I don't persanally like aftermarket chips. Cheers!

You can use the 300ZX N/A speedo speedo sensor, it is calibrated for the 4.08

This doesnt apply to the 90-96 Qs... However the 300ZX diff should go right in with the 300ZX halfshafts...

Thx - another thread HitMan listed an issue with the "shorter" axle stubsof the Z versus the Q. but it was a bolt in otherwise; and perhapsa different diameter stub but not clear if larger or smaller (which is which?)

Anyway, what else before I get on this?

thx

Unfortunately we have 2 threads that are too similar...

We're still ironing out things, we trying to figure things out as we speak... We're kinda blazing new territory!

I don't think 300ZX transmission is the same as Y33.Speed sensor is in transmission. I'll chekcinto it!Cheers!

If the half shafts on the Y33 bold up to the 300ZX diff, and the width of the Y33 rear is the same as the G50, then the Y33 axles and the 300ZX diff should bolt right in to the gG50. All you need is a couple extra parts cars.

Nope. Won't fit, I tried... Dennis swears it works, but ain't no way (unless he disassembled the trans).

I think the problem here is we're comparing a "300zx into Y33" with a "300zx into G50"....

The G50 and Y33 are very dissimilar.

Yeah, I have never spent any time under a Y33.

I was impressed with the G50 shafts, hubs, and diff in the 300ZX, though! If only Slim had finished the swap and tried the 300ZX parts in the G50 subframe.

really, rob tried it and said he got it to work... you gotta weld it on and kinda massage it into place, IIRC sijoko did as well.

ah the dangers of multiple similar threads floating around.....ok, so that would appear to be a NO on the fy33 into g50. can anyone elaborate as to the why and the specifics?

i was under the impression that at least the rotrs and calipers could come over as a direct swap with no collateral surgery if i wanted vented rears.

The Y33 is skinnier IIRC..... The Y33 it looks like simply had a Z32 rear suspension, including the adjustable shocks... The G50 is just a little wider.....

The rotors and calipers are the same as far as bolt in... The Y33 has slightly larger front brakes (296x28 vs 280x28) and the rear brakes are the same as the j30 i think...

All correct, Wes, and the 6 bolt vs. 5 bolt output flange is the killer.

Honestly, i dont think thats the killer, because you can just swap the halfshafts in.. however, 6 is OBVIOULSY greater than 5!!

R200 all the way, baby!

Was there ever a final answer for the speedo problem? Which sensor did you use? What year 300z did this come out of?

The speedo has error (at least Rob's in a G50), but goes bezekro if he tries to use the "yellow box" to correct for the error.

Basic question is consistent but "off" speedo a problem?

Also, all nissan speed sensors output at the same rate of X pulses per revolution. The speed sensor does not know the car's final drive ratio.

THAT is calculated in the speedometer. The speedo takes the sensor pulses and converts them to a fixed number of pulses per kilometer, which then gets sent on to the TCU/ECU, etc.

So from what I have read it is a worthwhile swap if you don't mind losing your higher speed accel and use of speedo.

Has anyone confirmed exactly how to correct the speedo when using 4.083 in a 97 Y33?

Easiest way is to use a speedometer converter... http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/ ... prd126.htm

I have this in my Q (for 5-speed) and it's super easy to install, everything works perfect just as it should.
