As some of you know I just picked up a 1994 Infiniti Q45t w/ 80k miles form our club founder Speedoctor.(With a couple of mods:D)

Many members made predictions of poor milage with the 4.08 rear.

And so I fully expected to get maybe 16mpg on the hiway.

But my very first tankful, which included a lot of in town driving, as well as a lenghty traffic jam, was 19mpg!

My next tankful was 21+ mpg at pure hiway driving between 70 and 85 mph.

I figured this cant be right, so I checked the accuracy of my odometer by zeroing it at a given mile marker and checking against the following mile markers to see if it would be off.

Yet it matched near perfectly even after 100 miles.

Of course the 94's have a bit longer set of gears, in the transmission, so my total gearing isnt quite as short as it would be in a 90-93 w/ a 4.08 but still, these numbers are very good.My next tankful with a bitof in town driving thrown in, was 19mpg, also very good.

Just figured I'd let everyone know.

Fred..:thumbup

Wish I could get mine to get that good of mileage - My best has been 18, but most tanks I'm getting 14-16. Don't know why, but I'm not liking it at all.:(

I'll be doing the 4.08's soon as well - Just gotta get my mechanic healthy again.

Also, if anyone else is interested, I still HAVE another low-mileage 4.08 that Fred was going to buy (until he wrecked his Q). Price will be the same for you as it was for him.:D

It's only 15% more rpm so a normal 24 mpg would drop to 20.5 at worst. City mileage won't change that much.

Your tach is showing 2300 at 60 mph right? 2682 @70 in 4th gear?

Fred,

How do you like the 4.08 rear end?? That's great mileage, especially with your heavy foot! I would love to read a comparrison between your 90 Q's and your new 94.

The 4.08 is working out great, the revs seem very well matched to the engine, which doesnt mind revving a bit (hi redline ) and the revs dont seem at all excsessive.

The performance gain is a bit less than I expected but the disadavantages eem a lot less than I expected to so I am very happy with the 4.08.

The 4.08 works great with a higher stall converter.

I first installed the converter, then later, the gears. They were meant for each other.

Gas mileage is not that bad considering the extra performance you receive.

Now, I have a question, in what ways can 4.08 gears alleviate stress on the transmission?

qship:I have been very busy on the job lately so I put in less than my formerly customary 10 hours per week here.A full write up will follow once I have fresh tires on it.

sijjoko:Yes, I do have the higher stall converter.

They can alleviate stress on the transmission by reducing lugging.More ATF flow (turns more) at a given amount of torque, means better heat control and less lugging.

Fred, the grille looks sharp! The steering on a 1994 Q45t should have the faster ratio almost like the original Q45s.

Nice shoes too! No, not yours, the cars. Are those Centerlines? What size and model?

Hope all that luxury isn't taking the edge off.:) Do you have the 10 Cd player also?

Good luck. The CD Player is the final indulgence. Haven't listened to radio, nor an advertisement, for more than an hour total over the last year. Less drag with the antenna not deployed.

Now that you have your very nice car, you can change your signature to only "my new car...." Congratulations.

Ah - I see. I thought it was something that was going to start a trend.

Incidentally, I printed up the pics of the trunk and engine compartment so my mech can replicate the NOS installation (for my 50-shot).

Dees, that was rough.:D Fred, go easy on him.... LOL.
