3rd Skyline 2nd GTR ... woo hoo

Hey guys, I've been around for quite some time in the S13/240sx side of the forum and it's time for me to move over to the big boys. Little back ground, I'm not a new skyline owner as I've own 2 of them previously over 10 years go when I was stationed in Japan; 1990 Wine Red HCR32 GTS-t and a 1991 Electric Blue (Not stock color which was black) BNR32 GTR.

I picked her up from SCW Performance just outside of Dallas TX, off their web site, site un-seen. Boy I can tell you it was scary but the car only has 49,000 miles on it a little patch of rust on the right rear behind the wheel. No rust anywhere else though so I'm thinking and from closer examination it's rust from previous body or paint work basically bad prep.

SCW had the car for about a month and the owner went ahead and titled it in his name not expecting to sell it to me only a couple days after registering it with the TX DMV.

I took delivery of her this past Sunday and she's sitting my garage until I receive the title, which was mailed out today.

Always good to see a non KH2 R32. And I would recommend throwing in adjustable cam gears when getting timing belt changed.

I wanted to mirror my previous build when I was in Japan back in 04' it was pushing around 700 at the wheels.
I'm probably leaving a lot out but what I'm looking to do in the near future:

Tomie turbo kit
Tomie Extreme exhaust manifolds
Tomie Extreme Dump Pipes
Tomie 264 IN/EX Cams
Trust (Greedy) head gasket
Trust (Greedy) Intercooler -- If I can even find one now days

Extra ECU for a custom tune to make it all work......

It already has a Kakimoto titanium exhaust but I want the center pipe with that huge silencer removed so will probably do a custom pipe for now to open it up.

Why get Tomei turbos? They are journal bearings.

Hmm I was going off of old thinking and equipment. Been out of it for about 10 years.

What about HKS 3037s?

Tomei used to be popular because it's sold as a complete kit and cheaper than HKS. But Tomei never moved on from journal bearings and now many vendors are putting together complete kits for Garrett ball bearing turbos using Nissan OEM gaskets and studs.

HKS has always been good, but often their high price isn't justified for the little marginal gain over Garrett, unless you're a baller. And now Garrett is offering GTX options and that pretty much blows all other options away.

If you are going single, then Borg Warner EFR turbo is the hottest player in town, even over Garrett. But then you gotta get over the single vs. twin debate first.

Full-Race even has a twin EFR setup which is insane It is NOT cheap though! Ha ha. I'll probably go with a single EFR on mine to keep cost down as well as ease of working on it, even though theoretically, twins are better for an RB. Theoretically and practical application are two different things though, lol!

I think for now I want to stay twins. Gonna need your guys help when the time comes. My goal is 700hp, 10sec or faster qt, and still maintain good street ability for a nice track day.

Well registration was a breeze so on go the plates.

Custom plate bracket, used 1" x 1/8 aluminum stock and a 1/4 thick spacer and alan bolts. Check it out, hella props if you can guess what the plate means......!

Installed the new gauge overlays converting KM to MPH also changed out most of the bulbs to LED.

So in doing the LED gauge bulb exchange don't change the idiot lights with LED. I tried the low fuel light and it freaked out. Fortunately it fixed itself when I put a regular bulb back in.

Also changed out the front turn signals for a brand new set!

Changed out my door handles and handle trim. I love the feel of new parts. Next on the list is the power steering dip stick and HVAC face plate. My HVAC face plate has the center clips broken off so it tries to pop off....

Do you have an aftermarket bracket to mount you front license plate like that? If so, which one is it? I am likely buying a skyline soon, and I also live in a state that requires a front license plate.

It is aftermarket, came on it from the auction. Not sure on brand as there are no markings on it.

Let us know how the Exedy Twin Plate goes.
Currently I'm undecided on a twin setup between Exedy, ORC, and Nismo. Probably leaning toward Nismo more because of their Coppermix discs.

I have heard Nismo clutches are just re-branded Exedy. Maybe that's why Exedy plates work with the Nismo units?

I have not heard about that, but that statement is certainly plausible. Given that Nismo just doesn't have the manufacturing capability to make not only the clutch but many other parts of its product line. Nismo's R1 turbo kit is nothing but Garrett turbos, with Garrett logo still on it lol

That said, I believe the Coppermix discs are Nismo's own, and could be the deciding factor for my choice.

Just verified through a dealer; Exedy and Nismo are interchangeable....Except the Nismo Coppermix discs. Those are Nismo only.

It's a pretty trick place because the license plate blocks the glare form the reverse lights.
